They are actually better than assault for specialistic roles, mainly because the second equipment slot.
Even if they have less HP and no bonus they feel more specialized to me, more sharp.
Assaults are more for grunt job, medium frame for clean jobs.
Sniping, second line assaults, recon, many other.

Yep.
Basic frames should be your more versatile general infantry, assaults should be specialized shock troops. I'm happy they're putting some love into the basic frames, now they just need to give them a skill bonus.
I would like a Gallente SMG.

Which would then lead to more bonus' to role specific suit's, or possibly giving them more power (prefer the first case rather than the latter, if I'm saying that right this is).

General infantry with no specialized role is what a basic frame should be. Basic frame shouldn't mean inferior.

 Kudos to everyone's opinion posted before mine, here. Nice to see the recognition. I've always been "Basic", even when Basic wasn't cool.

Basic frame should be mod based with more slots and role based suits role based with more specific bonuses and less slots (like T1 and T2 ships in EVE).
Basic would then be generally versatile and role suits specific to their job.
Otherwise, basic suits need to be dumped.
