I'm actually genuinely surprised I was convinced that everyone thought it was in need of tuning but after reading Sicerly Yaw's post I'm interested to see that people do disagree even Rattati had his disagreements.
"There is by and large no learning curve to this game. You just get dropped off the deep end and told to suck it up until you learn something or have enough SP and ISK to make up for your inadequacies. Not a lot can compete with the people with billions of ISK from the old PC days, people that can die 20 times in full proto gear in a pub match and laugh the loss off. There is almost no way they could actually go broke they have so much money."
"This horrible noob stomp mechanic DUST has is perhaps the biggest flaw in the game. A successful game needs a growing player base to fill in those who leave, and to fund new development. DUST is designed to have such a harsh experience for new players very few stick around for long."
This is pretty much what I wish I said.
So do think dust should be "HTFU" for new players and why?

to a point new players should be challenged and tested, but they should at least be given the tools to be able to succeed
I'll put it this way there's a competition, whoever can dig a tunnel trough a mountain first wins
the Veteran player has fancy equipment all the latest tech and even an expensive drilling machine
the new player gets hand tools not even a good ones just a hammer and a chisel
that's what it feels like to me. they both have the same goal but one has far more options open to them the only way for the newer player to stand a chance is if the vet is lazy or if he finds some type of loophole
what I would like to see happen is that the new player be given slightly better tools to compete with say perhaps a pick and shovel maybe throw in a drill for those hard spots

ok.
The learning curve attracts certain players; those who stick around, through the ups and downs, those who watch T.V series like Game of Thrones. It repels others; those who play apps like fruit ninja and not 'Clash of Clans'. It repels those who watch game shows like 'Wipeout'.
Dust 514 is the thinking man's shooter, which means more maturity, and tactical gameplay. This is why there is a huge learning curve; to keep it from being a 'gun-game wins' into a 'strategy wins'

We would have way more players if they were given the opportunity to learn and expand there skill set.

there was no tutorial when the game came out. Now they have something to guide players on how to make fits and searching. Eventually we all learn from experience; i used to run around in a min logi with a cloak and knives...trying to be a minja.

After nearly 2 years it shouldn't take more than a week to learn what a games about and think about it, out of the millions of characters created us few thousand still play because we learned but what about the other 995,000 players?

there are more than 330,000 active accounts each month, according to Rattati. If you are reading can you please clear this up? I will try and find the post for you

Rattati if you are reading is there a way for you to show how many players have stayed with the game?

You're right Jarrel.
NPE has always been a problem, and has hurt player retention more than anything.
There are lots of things that need to be done better.
- Tutorial - Skill based academy graduation - public meta cap - Matchmaking - Free respec when noobs graduate -auto squad in Academy - etc.
People who say "go play COD" haven't a clue what they're talking about.
It's not Dusts terrible NPE that sets it apart

NPE was and is one of Dusts biggest problems.
If there was (from the start) a better MM that wouldn't put new players versus old players, if there was meta lock, Dust would be in a better place.

Actually, the only child that spoke is you...... Think before you post please.
OP is right. There is no learning curve here. It is actually mechanically a pretty simple game. Its the STUFF gap that matters. Passive bonuses from SP and warbarges coupled with mountains of ISK on the other players is the reason you see guys quitting after a couple weeks. No one wants to play a game were they just go neg 10 kills every game and earn zero SP for it If assholes like this guy actual had to grind it out again in the current environment instead of the easy mode they came up in over the last year he would understand. These guys forget the number of 70+mill SP accounts has tripled in the last year plus officer level weapons and suits.....
Easy to say tough it out when you never had to. Guys on the high SP accounts don't even understand how easy they had it... |

Im just interested why you made another thread about same thingy again. I have idea.
Why big corps do not help newbies. What i know we (in CORSY) helping newbies on daily bases if they want to squad up.
Thats should be daily basis. Not just boost newbies progress and make them more proficient in SP gain.

This is both true and false, in my opinion.
It's true because back then, we didn't have 70 million SP accounts running around, the super tanks and the Dust 514 dark era hadn't appeared yet and we were all still learning together and having a good time.
However, I have a brand new "alt" character that I carried through the battle academy (was removed first match in for doing like 70/9) and was out in the pit with proto players! It's very hard but it's manageable and I have skilled my character to all advanced gear but still run the frontline starter suits!
some matches I go 14/7 or 23/8 or even 3/17 once it just depends! It's my opinion people cry too easily because they get killed because somehow it wounds their pride which is stupid
But yes the NPE sucks and has always sucked but it's doable if you want it
