I propose there be bundles of 50, 100, and maybe something like 250 for the players that are really up to their eyeballs in boxes.
Priced with calculated price drops (so like 100 would be about 50k Aurum, 250 would be about 130k Aurum, etc.)
Yes, it would be nice if CCP would give us enough keys that if we worked really hard to bring our boxes down we could do so on our own for free (and the keys in the daily missions was a good start)... but honestly I really don't see that ever happening, especially when battle salvage gives you 10 boxes about every 3-5 battles, and part of this is because CCP needs money and part of it is because of the value of the gear in those boxes.
The point is that (as an example) in completing the most recent "Krin's Salvage Run" missions (which offer quite a lot of keys comparatively) for just one of my characters I have accumulated about 300 boxes!!!!! That is way too much, even with the added keys (about 20) that those missions offer.
Also, almost all the boxes I acquired I got from battle salvage!!! IMO, if CCP doesn't do something like what I have proposed then they should either: 1) Remove the boxes from possible battle salvage so players can choose whether to receive boxes or not. 2) Allow players to sell boxes (at a decent price of coarse, taking into account that some are loaded with rare and/or expensive gear... maybe 10k ISK per). 3) Both of these ideas.
If anyone else has any other ideas, feedback, etc. feel free to post... Here's hoping CCP hears this one.
PS: The suggested Aurum cost is based on the 400 Aurum less for every 5 keys purchased at 3000 per that CCP is running right now (not opinion), and maybe (although I doubt it) another good option would be to reduce that cost by about half... But Anyway... there it is for those wondering/thinking. |

Calculated price drops you say? 100 cost 50k, so 50 cost ~25k if we buy 100 + 100 + 50 then we need to pay 50k+50k+25k=125k if we buy same but in one package then we need to pay 130k Something is wrong with these price drops

My point was simply to point out that if you go into the game select the 10 key bundle and bring it up to 25 to see the current pricing of 250 keys for 150,000 AU to confirm... If you were quoting my numbers, then you should know that was a typo (do the calculations) the more accurate number is 55k... correcting now. The point is still simple, lower the prices with the current relation of expense to discount. |

Actually, upon further review and reminder I think the reason why my math was off was because I was basing my math off the games math system... and the game's math is flawed (proof: activate 2 one day actives or 1 one day omega active booster - this should give you a 100% increase but for whatever reason it gives you closer to a 90-95% increase... that doesn't make any sense either... |

For me, Decryptor Keys are a very annoying item for me.
That is because I do like the Key idea. I like to imagine the concept that the District was populated with personnel/scientists/security staff, and when they heard the "Mercenaries" were going to assault the place, they ran for their lives and left locked personal articles in trunks and lockers, etc. And a hacked techno-key is the way to crack the boxes,GǪ but they're illegal (hacked) and will always need to be bought,GǪ and will always be fewer in number than the boxes/trunks we salvage after a battle.
I also DIS-like the Keys themselves. The NPC (CCP + Sony) have the market on these illegal Keys, and only accept Aurum to buy 'em. If I weren't already affluent (err, um, yes I've played Dust well enough that "Celesta Aungm" has graduated beyond simply "wealthy")GǪ if I weren't already affluent, I'd go nuts sitting on a pile of locked suitcases while someone holds her grubby hands out for me to PAY them for 10 keys at a time.
So, although your cost-adjustment idea is cool, I'm hoping to see new ways to "bypass" the Decryptor key. Maybe "Black Market" waysGǪ(agents other than Jara Kumora may be willing to sell us "other" kinds of keying devices).
Maybe home-made waysGǪ (Rattati was mentioning "nanite" mining through the warbarge---I'd love to be able to "construct" a counterfeit Key in my personal barge---one key that lasts 24hours).
Maybe Skill-grind waysGǪ (Codebreaker skills raised to Level 12 will permit 5x strongbox opening per Key).
But whatever way, it should be an 'adventurous' way. One of those cool "other means" of opening strongboxes that the game mentions in its screen-description.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the illegal, hacked key is the 'other means' hinted at in the description. Strongboxes are normally only ever supposed to be opened by the one they were intended for. Considering we're getting them as salvage and thrown at us as mission rewards, we are clearly not the intended end user. If it were meant for us, why box it at all? Why wouldn't it just open as intended? The Decryptor Keys are our only way of opening them, because we're dirty thieves and scavengers. |

Also, didn't realize the lore behind this... I guess I can appreciate this, but then I ask why not be extortionists too??? Why not ask the owners for a ransom reward per box (maybe make it a "Black Market Agent" only option... IDK)... the point is why can't we sell them then?!!! Does nobody want them back?!!! If so then why not sell us the real keys for a price to help them recolonize?!!! (Everyone loves ISK and mercs love gear so...) Also, as stated by CELESTA AUNGM if we really are dirty thieves with no other way of capitalizing on our unransomable unopenable plunder then why isn't it a priority of ours to have developed a method of creating keys from our barges???!! (That makes no sense...) So I gotta say I can understand your appreciation for the lore, but this honestly doesn't seem like one of those places where CCP is interested in the lore... they just want the money (cause the lore doesn't make any sense if you've been following me so far). |

I've only been playing like 6 months and I've accumulated well over 2000 boxes. I've even opened a ridiculous amount of them, and still can't keep up with how fast I receive them. I honestly don't care what's in them, just let me offload them somehow. |

Hello again, Jenni! Thought #2 could be described as a temporary BPO, or a BPO with an expiration date.
Legitimate Decryptor Keys are with the true owner of the strongboxes that were left behind (or maybe the legit Key is lost forever behind the parking garage--or in the dead hand of the owner who wasn't lucky enough to escape before we assaulted the District in our HAVs and Lavs.GǪpoor owner).
Hacked Decryptor Keys are NPO forged SEMI-legal gadgets, sold over the table and controlled by the Faction Empires. We can't get in trouble for buying them, but we have to buy them one at a time---only one strongbox opened for each Key we buy.
A "construct" Decryptor Key would be FULLY-illegal. So it can't be bought from the Faction Empires, and can only be manufactured under the table (like the reverse-engineered construct weapons we're starting to see a lot in our salvage). If it took a lot of raw material and time to be "built" in our warbarges, the player could sell it to other players, or use it herself, to open strongbox after strongbox after strongbox with only one "construct" Key. That would be something worth dedicating tons of raw material in our mobile factory to create. It would be a NON-consumbable Decryptor Key. A BPO Key.
GǪBut of course, since the "Faction Empires" is really just another name for "CCP/Sony", it wouldn't be fair that we permanently have a BPO Decryptor Key to destroy the Aurum-profit Sony gets from selling Hacked Decryptor Keys. So if the BPO Key (or Construct Key, or whatever we want to call it) was TEMPORARY (let's say it "malfunctions" after 8-hours or after 1-day), it would be equally fair to both us and Sony. Sony's profit from selling me a Hacked Key will only be postponed for 24 hours---and in 24 hours a player could open up 50% of her strongboxes before her "Construct" Key expires.

Okay... I think the percentage of boxes opened has a lot of value (just being able to open them endlessly for a time I feel would probably be pushing it... But that way no matter whether you had a lot or a little it would still leave some that would need regular keys to open and get rid of, at the same time it would greatly decrease the number of boxes each player is storing, and lastly (but still very important) it would encourage rather than discourage battle and missions from being completed (due to the threat of enormous loads of boxes!!!
Like I said before, your idea may not be very workable but I thank you a ton for such great premises!!!!! :) |

I feel that if they reduced the prices of the hack keys to around 150 aur per key players would be more compelled to spend the arum they have.. instead of 400 per key.. if anything you'll see a massive increase in aurum spent specifically for the hack keys. Few players spend alot of money on aurum specifically for the hack keys so this would allow the majority of low budget players to obtain keys bringing about a balance in the hack keys to strongbox ratios while having ccp still make money with high volume micro transactions for the keys. Honestly though, I feel the magic price for the hack keys is 100 aurum per key. Also playing everyday allows you to get 70 aurum per day so low budget players can obtain about 2 keys per 3 days of playing.. ccp would be a bit iffy about implementing this into the game due to possible unforseen monetary issues so what i suggest is for them to have day once a month where the price of hack keys gets reduced. Have them take the data of aurum spent along with aurum bought along with hack keys purchased for that day and compare the amount of money made to the average day with normal price hack keys. If all looks good we could see a permanent price drop in hack keys. Numbers won't lie, but with the way the hack key to strongbox ratio is now, ccp is not make much money off the keys, and the strongboxes are collecting DUST. I understand there is a need to make money for the game but depending on the subject being bought or sold, there is always a harmonic price or number that stands as the middle ground to where both buyer and seller can equally agree on. Of course this is nothing more than my opinion. |

I think the Devs mentioned the possibility of a Decryption Lab, to produce keys in small amounts, as a possible Warbarge upgrade some point in the future.

ps. Adding either a hack key creator to the warbarge, or strongbox decripter to the warbarge would be useful for future additions to it seeing as the warbarge doesn't offer much at the moment.
That's an interesting notion... Have one of their weekly offers where hacked keys cost a lot less (they have done this on many Aurum items but not these)... That's a good idea for a trial experiment (Hope you are watching CCP). |
