This - http://www.vg247.com/2015/06/29/eve-onlines-player-count-drops-to-lowest-since-2008/
The numbers speak unambiguously. With upcoming games like Star citizen which promise to have starship piloting and FPS inside(I read somewhere there shall be boarding the enemy ship options), CCP shall need to put more efforts to make what actually hint with that video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFTUazuGdTw - between 2:45 and 2:55
Making Legion for PC shall boost CCP playerbase a lot. There are 65000+ planets in EVE universe without counting the Jovian space. And lot of them have a lot of moons. There are a lot of POSes and Outposts. All that objects are waiting to be taken and than defended. The solution is there...

A bunch of new sci-fi games is coming. If Dust is not here in time I will just pick one for the next five years.
You just cannot say officially Dust is done on PS3 and it is coming for PC when it is not. It is the worst strategy ever and our patience is limited.

Player count != subscription numbers.
There are tons of factors as to why the player count is low on a day to day basis, still doesn;t mean eve's player base has shrunk by alot |

Anytime player count is dropping, you can bet subscriptions are as well.
While it's true that the relationship probably isn't 1:1, no-one continues to pay for a game they don't play forever.
People keep saying things like you, when this subject keeps repeatedly coming up, but the truth is that the active player base is a strong indicator of revenue. It's pretty obvious that CCP is losing revenue, and to the OP, the obvious solution is to diversify. Eve won't last forever. CCP has been trying to diversify with things like Dust and Valkyrie and tried with WoD. I'd characterize CCP's efforts to diversify as mostly unsuccessful at this point, but we'll see how Valkyrie does. |

I have $750 put into Star Citizen. I like Space-sim games. I hate subscription games; however, with XRebirth being a total disaster, I turned to EVE to fulfill my space sim hunger.
If, DUST2.0 / Legion is not released on PC & PS4 or better implemented into EVE Online, I will drop my subscription to EVE. As Star Citizen and ED promises to have both in 1 game.
If EVE: Valkyere is a lobby shooter based in EVE, that just justifies me staying with Star Citizen. Again, I can do that all in one game with no subscription but a 1 time fee.
EVE Online.. Need more ships imo. Plenty to do, just not enough to fly for me.. I think it might be the clickly clickyness that is losing my attention. I know for sure the lack of DUST and EVE Connection is what's pulling me away from EVE. Got a subscription to support DUST and EVE connection in hopes of more than FW; however, that is quickly demising.

I don't know nor do I care.
For, you see, I am the end user, not a CCP executive.
I also don't fret when GM stock goes down, as I hold no stock in it.

Eve has been losing active playerbase since 2013. I guess alts haven't been needed since then? Besides that, don't alts add revenue?
So, no matter how you slice it, the loss of playerbase is a concern and is almost definitely causing a drop in revenue.

You can cut EVE's subscription base by 3 anyway, it's mostly people with multiple accounts. Hopefully CCP doesn't sleep through this like they do with Legion. Dust for PS3 hah, still cracks me up. /visions |

No one here, to my knowledge, is directly concerned about the number of "people" playing. The important point is, how much money is coming in. So in that sense, you can't cut Eve's playerbase because that's the measure of CCP's income, which in turn determines the long term viability of Eve and anything else that CCP want's to make/sustain. |
