Personally, I used to despise anyone who did this. I felt like if you ran proto in pubs you were a scrub who couldn't fight without relying to your precious OP guns. Now, my view has changed. Honestly, I believe that if you run proto stuff you've earned it. It means you put in the time to earn your gear. It means you're good enough to make the ISK required to be able to run it every match.
So my question: Is running proto gear in pubs an acceptable practice?

Ah but does that no strike a chord of irony.
A veteran should not step into a public match with the intent to use their highest tier of equipment. Should they do so they will be assaulted by the general community.
However if a veteran should make a comment about new players moving into more competitive modes an such as Faction Warfare and not using the correct or more acceptable tiers of content they too will be assaulted by the general community.
In the end it comes down to what you personally consider to be important. Your personal enjoyment of the game or that of someone else, whichever you decided no one can fault you for it because ultimately you cannot be responsible for another's enjoyment of something.

This is exactly why NPE is so terrible in Dust. Honestly, one of the biggest things Dust needs to fix is matchmaking. If you are just starting you don't want to be battling veterans who have played for years. It's just not fun.

Hmmm. I've burned 25m ISK in Pro suit using them just to screw around. So Personal Enjoyment ftw.

You are correct you are not responsible for their enjoyment and you also should not be responsible for their undo distress or frustration.
My opinion is that proto in pubs is stupid-if you cannot carry a positive KDR in standard gear you are doing it wrong.

Its no different than other fps where you unlock armor, barrels, scopes, ammo, etc. Noobs should be grinding but instead they waste their time crying. Its the culture of entitlement. The thing they dont realize is ppl are running proto expecting to go up against it, i could care less if their caught in the crossfire because we all had to go thru it. they think the game revolves around them only and if loosing at dust is such a sting to their ego they should just play alt514 in academy but they want to run with the big dogs but then they cry when they get bit. |

Using proto gear in pub matches. Seems pretty dust related to me.

I feel as if you should only use proto in a pub when the other team uses proto. It simply isn't fun for anyone when a entire squad goes proto and officer on you, especially when you don't have the ISK to return the favor. These days, the protostompers get more because no one can fight back, so they profit always, and the poor become poorer because they lose ISK in MLT-ADV gear trying to do their best, but cannot fight back. The ISK disparity makes a big difference between the capabilities of fighting protostompers. In games like COD, without a in-game currency, it's easier to fight back because you don't have to worry about losing money. In DUST, once you lose money you stop running the suit. And not only that, SP disparity makes it so protostompers get more proto to counter play a new player's first proto, and they proto everything and have all the ISK they need, vs a new player with no proto available to them and little ISK.

It would be cool if you got a notification for killing a proto/expensive suit.
90% of the time I can't even tell what I'm shooting, but knowing you've just killed someone's entire match payout is just the best feeling |
