Unfortunately I think CCPs only concern is milking every last penny out of Dust here on PS3.
I remember reading a long time ago (a loooooong time ago) about some 3rd party service that would have theoretically allowed people to play Eve on the PS4. This was back before the dreams of a meaningful connection between Dust and Eve were shattered by the folks in space who refused to share even the smallest bit of their sandbox.
Anyway, I don't remember how it went down, either CCP couldn't reach a deal with the 3rd party service, or the 3rd party service couldn't reach a deal with Sony.
I personally don't feel CCP has any interest in anything not connected to Eve. To add to that I don't feel enough spacers are interested in splitting their time between Eve and an FPS. You may have played Eve, if so you know the drill. Click your mouse every few minutes, throw up some question marks, then profit. The world of the online FPS is much more.......we will say hectic.
Eve doesn't want a connection they can't fully control. CCP does not want to put in the work required for a solid online FPS. To me that says there will be no port.
That's all just me looking into my crystal ball which may or may not be accurate at all.

Well i'm inclined to only pay attention to the tweet from Rattati that ccp now wants a port.
That is all that is relevant, which is why i did not read your post past the first sentence lol.

Understandable, and no offense taken.
But your tenure on these forums has been long Tech, you know how CCP operates.
When I look at what was promised compared to what's been given, as well as all the bung hole dusting from CCP in between, I wouldn't actually believe CCP was going to port Dust until a few months into playing said port on a new system. |

I know but i think ccp couldn't fully grasp how incapable the ps3 is to deliver what was promised and actually thought that 'it's got cell technology' nonsense was some kind of magic to be unlocked when really it's just a shtty 3.2ghz cpu.
I bought the cake and i really don't know why.The presentation was stunning lol.
Ah my bad it's a 4ghz. So they bought into that then i reckon but didn't think of the implications with a 256mb GPU and ram lol.

I did the same, I can't blame you.
Though I feel a large portion of the unreached dreams is due to CCPs inability to work with the PS3, not the PS3 itself. My reasoning is that if MAG could throw 200+ maniacs into the same battle on PS3, CCP should certainly have done much better with Dust than they did.
Edit- But I am by no means savvy when it comes to any kind of software/hardware.
All that being said I would love to see Dust on a new system. I would rather not see a simple straight port. No need to bring the issues here over to a clean slate, but a new system would be an acceptable olive branch from CCP so we can all begin the healing. |

It's because of all the talking with eve and stuff that dust has to do i think. It has to use a lot of resources without even being in a battle itself. All the different items and effects they each have as well, it's a lot of stuff.
I think that might be why PC is so bad as it was basically made with the dregs of what else they could cram in. I'm not 100% though, someone said a good few months ago in a more informed manner than i can.

Yeah that does make sense. A friend of mine was just telling me they've made some changes, something about not showing names or text in the chat windows during battle. He says it's smoothed the overall game out.

Another thing that would be good for balance and to trim off the excess usage is tiericide and it was presented in a way that would trim of 160 suits or something, can't remember.
Ultimately these are all just plasters/band aids for a gash.

CCP Rattati already knows and understands our desire to port Dust 514 to a new platform. However, which platform we are heading to next is still up in the air. Many feel that the PC will be the likely place. But knowing how often CCP changes its mind, I am on the fence on this one as I feel it could go either way to the PC or the PS4.

Thankfully it seems CCP might actually implement the limited tiericide that was talked about. Just look at the status update.

@Tech
Yeah my friend mentioned that also. He said there would still be the option of using current dropsuit visual models as simple skins, to save room and provide the visual variety.
I'm not sold on tericide as a balancing factor though. The way I was told there would be basically 1 suit for each type, but all suits would require a power core that allowed for more cpu/pgu usage, and there would be 3 levels, essentially basic advanced proto. I feel that really doesn't change anything, you would just be shuffling a limiting factor away from suits, and over to a new slot type.
Again, this is only what I've heard. I've been away a while, and I'm just now receiving large amounts of info on Dust after being away a good while lol |

It could yeah.
If it goes pc thn it has an infinitesimal amount of competition in drawing players in compared to ps4. It will have to deal with hackers regardless of how good CCP's anti cheat system is (it is good but that's not the point). It will also have to deal with the much higher expectations and general snobbery of pc gamers (I am one) and on top of that CCP will stain their name even more by sticking the middle finger to their existing player base with console. It would also destroy that kind of connected immersive feel (and the potential for more) by way of us just playing both games on two monitors and turning it into a farm (Such is the way).
Hundreds of thousands have already played the game and probably hated it when they tried it but it has gotten better since then but they are moving on to whatever platform. I think it's potential is much more on console. It can have higher fps and graphics on pc but it's all about the experience and the connection with eve is part of that even if it is almost non existent. Pc would remve that and we'd just farm the sht out of it i think.

I agree Tosh. I know there would be many more resources available to Dust/Legion/Whatever on the PC, but I'm of the mindset that it's gameplay above visuals, just my personal opinion. I think CCP should easily be able to make a stellar game on PS4. Sure, it would not be the most visually groundbreaking game to have ever released up until that point, but visuals are only worth so much.
Add to that (and I'm speculating here) the fact Eve is unwilling to relinquish any control to outside forces, and you no longer need to connect one game to the other. I'd imagine this further eases the burden on said system, making the PS4 even more appealing.
Not only that, but the larger online shooter crowd seems to be on consoles. I'm not saying consoles are better at them, and the PC shooter community could be larger. But console online fpsing is a big thing, a bigger thing, I feel, than PC online fpsing. I guess more mainstream would be a better term, for reasons like convince as you mentioned. I think the idea of a gaming rig and all the bells and whistles to someone who, say, doesn't have a PC at all is a bit scary, and sounds expensive as opposed to a console which is cheaper and far less complicated to get up and running.
All in all, I really don't see how a new Dust/Legion/Whatever would not be a huge success on new consoles. CCP would only need to hammer out a solid vision, as well as exact parameters and goals to actually make the vision a realistic, workable concept that translates into a fun all round game, and a cohesive playing experience.
Lastly, on a light hearted joking note (I'm not joking)- Put it on the PS4 CCP, you broke my heart and you f*cking owe me. Yeah that's right, I got on the other night. I saw the radar legend that still pops up as the battle loads. Where's my heavy aircraft CCP? Damn you!! And what about fighter?! All those times you devs trolled me on those fighter threads. A hovering fighter was a stupid idea, but I know the maps were too small, so I would have taken it. But g*d dammit fighters protect bombers, you could have brought in bombers, made the fighters utterly worthless against ground troops, and it would have been Europe circa 1943 in the skies up there!!!! And what the f*ck is a defense node???!!!! You know what it doesn't matter because I want one CCP, whatever it is.
Sorry

Yeah totally.
There's literally almost half a million people playing csgo at any one time and that game is badly outdated and you can't even ads with literally 99% of the guns. It's a bland arena shooter.
Compare that to the kinds of games dust could be likened to, they don;t even come close, not even worth thinking about.
That's another thing. I proposed in the past a system where eve pilots and dust mercs rely on eachother in pc and have options on the side as well to break free and impact eachother. The consensus on both games from a lot of people was no.
So the two games will never be integrated that much beyond what we have now. The players simply don't want that depth really. I'm sure if dust went to pc then the eve players would love it though as they'd be the ones impacting themselves in a way that they see fit and most likely for farming purposes.
