Minmatar or Amarr Assault. Gallente Assault is pretty good too. Minmatar Scout for speed hacks, Gallente Scout for stealth. Amarr Sentinel for armor tank (for when you have logi support), Caldari or Minmatar for solo tank.
If you are sticking with Logistics, Gallente for scans or Amarr for Uplinks.
All of these I would recommend.
Some other options are Caldari Assault and Caldari Scout, but these are very hit-or-miss for many people. I've seen many people do extremely well, but I've heard feedback saying otherwise as well.

Its better to be skilled into it as you get the bonuses, however you don't need to be.

Nice info Kaze that helps clarify some stuff! I have proto min scout and gal assault already so I don't know if its worth getting there apex and waisting my aurum on there fit ya know.

Honestly I wouldn't do anything until the next update comes out. I'm sitting on 103k Amarr LP that begs to get used everyday, but I want to see what happens with the nerf/buff to assaults, logis, and commandos . Not saying you should FOTM chase, but if your going to spend actual money it might be worth it to wait so you know what your getting. |

Fg. Amarr assault + min assault

etc.
Also, save your sp. Assault's getting nerfed, logi/commando buffed.

I modify the modules because the kincat just takes up PG space, but even if you don't mess with the modules, it's still well fit.

I got the Cal 'Ratseu' assault. But it doesn't stack the best on stock, ive swapped some stuff around and im really happy with it.
The Amarr 'OPus' assault seems to be awesome. But it'll most likely die out because of the complaints about the Scram.

Ive seen it pre-customisation patch with 600+ armour. Although the armour repair probably takes a hit.
Have you been playing long? Or are you using the APEX as a good start up fit to make ISK?

I made a shaman apex, basically all I did was slap a core rep tool and a better uplink on that thing and left everything else as is. Worked well the couple times that I used it, but I haven't tested it thouroughly enough to reccomend it yet.

I'm not too familiar with APEX fittings, and I'm too lazy to look at them right now.
Double check each fit first- CCP makes some terrible fittings.
That being said, any scout is a bad idea. CCP doesn't have the slightest clue as to what a good scout fitting is.
They're pretty damn good at fitting sentinels, though.
