Players in militia and standard gear should never have to face proto if they dont want to. Can anyone think of any other shooter where players are forced to constantly play against players with vastly better gear every match. Hell even Eve isn't this brutal, a new player can stay in high sec in relative safety for as long as they like.
Pubs should be the place where low SP players can learn the game and have fun, not a place where they are constantly on the run from guys in better gear.
Tiered pub matches should have been in place form the start.
Players should have a choice of the following pub match tiers;
- Low meta level tier with lower payouts. - Medium meta level tier with medium payouts - High meta level tier with high payouts.
This would create a nice balance of risk and reward. Obviously FW and PC will have no restriction on gear.
Unfortunately I fear the moment has passed for this and the player base is too small to be fractured further. |

First as you said the playerbase is too small anyway. Then I'm against that, what made some people stay is the progression. Why upgrading your stuff if you can't use it? Then most FPS put any players against each other no matter what the level difference is. This is a MMO/FPS, progression is a part, actually the most important one of this game. What you propose would remove the progression feeling. And finally, if they implement what you propose, you're gonna have veterans jumping into STD gear games to fight noobs and the difference of skill will allow them to get the most insane average KD you've ever seen. |

I was behind the idea once, but things have changed.
With the placement of MM, and tiercide on the horizon, I think now is not the time.
Perhaps this could be considered in the future, especially if there is a port, but right now is not the time.

You can still use proto gear in the high meta tier, hell you can jump in to the high tier in standard gear if you like.
The points isn't to stop noobs fighting vets, it's to allow players the opportunity to fight against players with similar level gear. Also remember the payouts in the low tier will be low. There will be higher payouts in the higher tiers.

Yes but what I mean with the progression is that the cool thing upgrading your gear is to feel it's better than your opponent's. If you're fighting people with the same tier equipment you lose that feeling. And I like changing myequipment tier level during the same game to adapt to the situation.
Also they would need to change the way meta level is calculated, right now a PRO commando has a meta level around 50 whereas an ADV logi is easily above that. |

Even BF4 match making is much worse.
Since EA is selling those "DICE" servers and allow the no life admins to change crap and making matches were level 1 to level 30 players face the others who are in level 140.

This could have worked if loyalty ranks were used as a guide to put players of same rank with each other. Problem is that you can bypass and get to higher tier by simple buying aurum.

This wouldn't replace matchmaking, the player would be able to choose what tier of match they joined. |

The skills themselves provide bonus' weapon's are extensions, yes important, but not where the feeling of upgrading accomplishments come from, and fighting people of the same tier isn't at all bad, especially for the rooks, changing/altering fit's mid game is tiresome and can essentially be pointless to do since you'd just change it all back anyhow, that's what having multiple fits are for.
Decreasing meta level significantly on adv and basic gear should do the trick, simplistic, no?
I feel this thread was based around to aid NPE but it seem's everyone is against helping/allowing rook's to fight other rook's. Am I wrong? Even with tiercide Rat's never said it would either help or break NPE. MM? Don't know what MM is, like the anime, though I never finished it.

There will be higher payouts in the higher tiers. For now, we can't afford to split up the playerbase any more than it already is. Weekdays we're waiting 5-10 miniutes for a match at certain times of day, that's a warning sign.
I just started using proto in pubs for the first time since closed beta(except for that period where we got buckets of SP). When noobs and vets were thrown in together i couldn't bring myself to use it, but now typically MM puts me in the upper tier and i'm thinking that's mostly vets/better players and there's a lot of proto/officer gear in the killfeed/killscreen.
Would much rather see other measures take to balance pubs, removal of shared squad scans is prolly the single most effective change we can make.

This would create a nice balance of risk and reward. Obviously FW and PC will have no restriction on gear.
