Went up against someone who went 30-0 simply because they abused the jump module mechanics with a mass driver + flaylock on a Min assault.
I would say that it's just as bad as no-skill swarms. Horrible aim mechanics makes it impossible to hit him as he's jumping up and and down, while his mass driver becomes and no-skill no-aim weapon which he can spam continuously. And what's even better is that he gets the added benefit of being able to insta kill punch even a sentinel. And when he gets hurt, he just jumps up to a rooftop to safety and recovers.
The module needs to be toned down. Also remove its melee bonus so you can't have two abusable mechanics in one. Whoever decided to give such a ridiculous bonus to this module must have been drunk when he came up with this stupid idea.
Dust is no longer the tactical shooter that took several clips to kill someone in early beta. That's what made it feel so different from all of the other games where it's three shots or a melee attack and it's a kill. But now it's even worse than that. It's simply whoever can abuse the game mechanics to a greater extent.

You're going to need to do a lot more than changing a single module to get the old feel of Dust back.
What? Am I mad? Why do you ask?

I think jump modules need to stay as-is, but something else needs to be changed.
How about no firing while jumping?

How about no firing while jumping? Got me thinking, and this came to me immediately: what if stamina usage was increased by the same % amount given to jump height.
That way you can do one super powerful jump to get somewhere tactically, but your next jump will barely get you off the ground. This won't affect those that want to get to a tactical place, but will instead stop the abuse of jumping sky high repeatedly to avoid taking any damage from enemies.

Correct Oh shut up. Trying to hit someone who's jumping up and down is worse than trying to hit someone who's circle strafing, which is also a completely stupid game mechanic. Just wiggle left and right and you suddenly become immune to 90% of the shots coming at you.

Yep it can be frustrating.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to know who is in charge of making final decisions on what gets implemented in DUST and what doesn't.

It's the stamina + speed that makes the MK0 so good at jumping
Also lag + hit detection. ( I've point blank shotguned a mko just as it jumped with zero dmg registered)
I use the same tactic with a Cal Assault and its not as effective as you might think.
the myofib haters went out if their way to show that the stacking penalties weren't working .
And what happened? The fun part of jumping was removed and the suits that can add three became very strong because that is the optimal number for a jump without receiving significant damage from the landing.
If they nerf it further then suits like the mko, cko, and cko scout will still use this tactic. |
