So, I was thinking about the play styles that every race is focused on. Gallente move in fast and hit hard at close range Minmatar do hit-and-run fighting Amarr stand their ground, and hit whatever comes their way at longer range And the caldari... do what?
It seems to me that the caldari just have a ****** version of the amarr play style.
Should they be given a more distinct play style, or should they stay the way they are?

They fight from a distance (long range weapons) and take damage till shields are out. That is when they take cover, wait for shield to quickly recharge, and start shooting again. They are the shoot and cover type of fighters.

Caldari are meant to be 'siege warfare' specialists, using a combination of nanohives, nanite injectors and long range weaponry to hold ground and push forward. Amarr are meant to be 'armored warfare' specialists (using uplinks to quickly advance their heavily armored suits to the front) Gallente are meant to be 'information warfare' specialists, using scanners, stealth, and speed/recovery to kill and redeploy. Minmatar are meant to be 'skirmish warfare' specialists, using speed, versatility and overwhelming firepower to hit everywhere.

TBH, when i hear Siege Specialist, i immediately think of a Shotgun.
Can we please give Caldari a shotgun? The idea of either a railgun loaded with Flechette or a missile HMG is extremely enticing for my Minmatar self to steal and use on a MinAssault.

If the breach shotgun was a thing that actually worked and it was something along the lines of a 20m 2 pellet slug shotgun with a moderate magazine size, it would probably be entirely okay.
I've been using the plasma cannon a bit on an alt recently and it feels like a really 'reliable' weapon (despite its unreliability) throughout most of its range. You can use it for anti infantry, you can use it for anti-installation, you can use it for anti-vehicle. You can take long shots at targets without feeling too bad for missing, you can use it against stationary targets and insta-dead them at max range, you can nail people at 40-70m relatively easily, you can kill people at short range with a good body shot... and even if you don't you probably still got splash damage on them so that's awesome. All of the support skills feel valuable on the plasma cannon (reload is a DPS increase, ammo increases total carried by ~50%, proficiency amplifies damage).
I wish that the swarm launcher functioned like the plc (instead of its current HERP DERP VEHICLE DETECTED DEPLOYING 0-SKILL F.A.R.K.O.F.F. MISSILES) and that the amarr had a weapon that functioned similarly as well. Swap the profile to a 'hybrid' type and it'd be kay (minmatar already have the mass driver, they can go to hell). The sniper rifle is just lacking for a 'utility' option on the caldari, especially on the commando.
Aside from re-tooling existing weapons though, I dont think that the caldari 'need' any new weapons aside from maybe a heavy anti-infantry gun... a twin-linked heavy rail rifle with a ( o o ) reticule.

Caldari in this game are missing an essential ingredient to there playstyle which is ewar, specifically ECM to jam close range threats. We need some equivilent to that. ECM for ground units could be explained as a magnetic pulse that throws off the trajectory of ammo since we don't have targeting systems. Or, it could be something that jams the screen since we are supposed to be looking through a screen on the helmet like Iron Man.
The Amarr begin at long range and move in close. The Cal stay at long range which doesn't work well with a game like this where ppl want to fight, easily move forward and rumble.
CCP's explanation for Cal changed to the hit and run tactic. That still doesn't cut it unless shields can be made stronger and then take longer to recharge.
The CPM candidate we need, not the one we want. Friends are nice, ideas are golden.
