I want to see Dust on another platform too, but it has to be in the right spot first.
It needs to able to 'wow' right off the bat as a AAA contender. If this game were picked up and dropped directly into the PS4 today what would people notice? People typically notice flaws immediately, and there are more than a few. Painfully long EoM screen, missing content, incomplete/flawed trade system etc. Porting today would make a very bad first impression, which is important.
Those above mentioned things (among others) all need to be fixed before this game could consider being ported.
How can we help?
The best thing I feel the community can do is to offer constructive feedback on the forums, and buy AUR if you can. The more profitable Dust is, the better chance it has on the next platform.

I feel like players who post these threads are always completely oblivious about everything CCP has ever said about Dust's future.

Bad first impression, you say? It's not like there isn't one from pretty much anyone that's played and left. Or the reviews of this. Yeah, those don't leave a bad impression on Dust. |

It needs to able to 'wow' right off the bat as a AAA contender. I don't mean this to be contrary or as an insult. I mean it with the highest respect, an honest question:
Why?
EVE is not a Triple A game, it makes money. Games like ARMA or Amnesia come out by smaller developers, they make money. Not everything has to be a super contender heavyweight champion. Just like an action movie might come out with a modest budget, make a fair amount of money, and please audiences a game can be modest as well. Not everything has to be Call of Duty/Battlefield or The Avengers.
But to go along with what you have to say, I wonder just how much moving to a different platform would help. I know some EVE players bought a PS3 for DUST, my father would have had he not won a PS3 at work like two weeks before Open Beta launched. But would those same players be willing to do it again on the PS4? I probably wouldn't get a PS4 just to play DUST and I can imagine a lot of people doing the same thing. Releasing to a new system, regardless of what it is, will fracture the community. Releasing to the PS4, I wonder if we would gain more people than we would lose.

It isn't completely out of the question, believe it or not. "We are still making money on the PS3, why bother transitioning?" "We put a lot of money into this thing and are now just barely making a profit; we don't want to take a risk again." "Let it ride until it dies" sort of thing.
I have said it multiple times: the only way this whole situation goes over well is PS4-PC Cross-platform play and we keep our SP, Aurum, Corporations, and Characters. I doubt we will keep our ISK but even the former is a pipe dream at the moment.

I hope, sincerely hope, that CCP is using DUST as a testing ground to febelop Legion or any better game. If they aren't doing that then they are wastingGǪ well, they are going for a repeat of Incarna and DUST 2014.

Spending money just tells them that staying on the PS3 is okay. If money starts drying up on PS3 they have to move to get back to making money.
Big companies want you to believe that if you spend money they will listen to you but the only thing they actually listen to are the numbers. Dry up the money on PS3 and they will port so fast you will not even know what happened. |

Word to the wise.
You can't out-Battlefield, Battlefield. You can't out-CoD, CoD. You can't out-WoW, WoW.
Trying to make a good impression as a AAA shooter is going to result in failure and trying to intentionally shoot for AAA anything is wrapped in failure as well. Why?
Because Five Nights at Freddy's, Minecraft... Hell, even games like Skyrim, GTA, etc - they're not trying to be any other game and they're not trying to compete, they're just games made for people who wanted games like that. You want Dust 514 to succeed? Make it a game that you want to play that you aren't able to play. Quit trying to be like the big competitors because if we wanted to play a big-time AAA shooter, we'd go play one.

That's never going to happen. CCP in it's current form isn't capable of such a thing with the resources they are willing to dedicate to DUST.

Wow, lots of constructive criticism here. The idea of this game getting ported is that it would solve a lot of problems. The lag etc.I do agree, if new players got to this game, and saw all the problems we put up with, they probably wouldn't stay. Not to mention the learning curve. Dealing with all these problems and the harsh environment. Yikes, good luck

The biggest problem Dust faces even with a port is that the mechanics of the asset loss system vs the reward system encourages people to play passively.
It's been a problem for a long time. Really they need to be working on tweaking this until players show a willingness to group up and fight each other. Perhaps the small playerbase makes this issue seem worse than it would be with more players, but I don't think so.
All the balance and new, awesome stuff in the world can't make the game fun if three minutes into a fight the other team has stopped fighting. |
