This is my story. ItGÇÖs a Saturday afternoon and raining, and I thought I would give Dust another go, the yearly check-in if you like, to see whether it is any good yet. Afterall, this game was the reason I bought a console right? So this is how things went:
30 mins to find the console, cords, and controllers and then plug everything together (so far so good)
25 mins for obligatory playstation update (refreshingly quick!)
45 mins failed dust update... grrr (ok, plan A is no good so on to plan B)
25 mins do delete Dust, and then reinstall from scratch, yay! ItGÇÖs working!
Now just click instant battle, and... nothing?! What is going on? Oh well, it says it is searching for a battle so who am I to disbelieve it (IGÇÖll just make a sandwich while I wait). 25 mins later and woot! I am loading into a brand new fresh battle :) IGÇÖm excited now, I can almost taste those SP and ISK, I canGÇÖt wait to fire my first shots (well actually 2.5hrs so far but whoGÇÖs counting).
So I spawn, quickly check all the buttons, yes good everything is working, and move out to find the enemy... 12 paces later I am dead, politely informed that I have been killed by a single shot from 310m range, but yay a medic is coming! Revived, I leap for cover from that pesky sniper, only to be mown down immediately by 2 gentlemen with what appeared to be full sized artillery cannons duct taped to each of their forearms. As the camera floated over my corpse I watched the shadows of the enemy team filing past without even the courtesy of a friendly tea-bagging: clearly the farming was more important than having fun. And with that thought in my mind I simply switched off the console and walked away... maybe next year. At least I had a good sandwich.

While the new player experience is still rather rough, I do have to ask how do you think you'll get better at something if you never try?
You'll only ever get better at dust by playing (and reaching out to established communities). Waiting another year won't do anything for you but increase your frustration when things aren't super-easy.

I donGÇÖt expect to get better at this. I logged in to see if Dust had gotten better, and it hasnGÇÖt.
In Summary: it took a long, long time to get into a fight, and once there I was slaughtered immediately without even a chanceGǪ if I followed that routine until I GÇ£got betterGÇ¥ I would be grinding forever. Things donGÇÖt need to be super-easy, just fair.
To me it seems that there is no noob-matchmaking in place (or perhaps no noobs, did they all leave?) and that the role of a new player is simply to be a loot/XP pi+¦ata until they quit in frustration.
Fortunately for me I did find a strong Eve/Dust fps community with whom I regularly enjoy getting my pew on, unfortunately for CCP that gameplay takes place within the Planetside universe! If only there was a way to combine the fast, dynamic, and massive battles of Planetside with the rich lore and industry of EveGǪ

So... it took you a little bit to get into a match? so what? You played /a singular/ match and quit after not performing well (because you weren't proficient enough to even really have a chance) and failed to even give it a few days to build any proficiency by doing stuff like learning maps or strategies or making a decent suit. I think you have some pretty grossly inflated opinions of your own skill, or what matchmaking and balance should be ('i should be instantly deployed and be made to feel like i'm the hero of a pve fps/rpg in every match')
There is new player match making (though if you're long since graduated from academy, you aren't likely to be put against the new players. You'd have to make an alt on a new PSN). In short, you've come and whined on the forums cause you haven't met immediate success and didn't have the patience to actually expend any time on earning success. New players are much, much less susceptible to getting smacked around by bittervets than they were before (though it can still happen) and actual semi-balanced matchmaking is a thing now, but I'm still amazed that you think that 30minutes while amateur or incredibly rusty is an accurate way to glean information.
To make another parallel, its like raging at people who are under level 5 in league of legends because they're bad (especially if its their first moba). Or it's like claiming to be a particle physicist after skimming some wikipedia articles.

SoGǪ you seem a little upset that my opinion of this game is different to yours? Probably most people who feel like I do simply quit and never even think about Dust again, and IGÇÖm certain most of them wouldnGÇÖt take the time to share their thoughts on the forum, thus allowing the fanboy circle-jerk to continue oblivious to popular opinionGǪ
But anyhow, taking your advice I thought IGÇÖd give this game a longer go, I mean if you didnGÇÖt enjoy being raped the first time then you should stick with it until it becomes fun, right? So I lubed up and made an alt (for the alleged matchmaking you spoke of) and played for several hours until I couldnGÇÖt stand it anymore, and the result was basically more of the same.
The controls were incredibly bad and clunky (and deliberately worse if you try to play heavy) and this hurt a lot, particularly trying to step across from PC fps gaming. By using a standard controller I also feel at a disadvantage to players who might have a keyboard and mouse set up.
Getting into a battle still took a long time. After punching the instant (ha!) battle button the quickest load in I had was 2.5mins, and the longest was 9.5mins. The average for the afternoon was about 4.5mins. If you think this is ok, then stare at this sentence for 4.5mins (IGÇÖll wait), and then tell me if you still think this is ok.
Some of the physical play areas made no sense: why do I have to jump to climb up a 6 inch gutter? why do I seem to snag on corners? why canGÇÖt a fit between a building and a fence when there is clearly enough space? I even saw some graphical glitches in the form of corpses doing the jitterbug half in and half out of the ground, although maybe it was just nanites celebrating their liberationGǪ
There were many, many frustrating deaths. Lots of one shot kills, or slaughter immediately after spawning. If by some miracle I managed to survive and get the drop on the enemy they would often tank an entire magazine from me, then kill me laughing as I strafed and bunny hopped while trying to reload. In total I managed to achieve a kd ratio of almost 0.1 woot.
And confirming the obvious: militia gear is rubbish. With it I donGÇÖt have the power or accuracy to hit anything at a distance greater than armGÇÖs length, and I donGÇÖt have the armour to close in for the kill either, which really limits combat options. If an open space was required to be crossed I would have to wait for teammates to lead a charge, leaving me feeling more like a baby crossing the road than an immortal space warrior! I tried to upgrade some stuff to tier 1 gear (wow) but failed miserably without the skills in place (foolishly I had used my available points to improve shield and armour, then had none left). So because I have rubbish gear, I get rubbish results and rubbish income, meaning itGÇÖs even harder to get ahead. lol it's like trying to make isk by fighting pvp with an impairor in nullsec!
Like I said earlier, things donGÇÖt need to be super-easy, just fair. A game should be easy to learn and hard to master, and it should be fun! For me Dust seems to be none of these things.

1) I'm not upset that your opinion is different. I'm upset that you're succumbing to a lot of logical fallacies - particularly the fallacy of small numbers ("I tried once and failed, I can never succeed at this"). Basing your opinion off of incorrect or incomplete information is a bad thing to do as a person. I'm more than willing to accept a difference in opinion, provided it's well reasoned or not constructed upon logical fallacies.
2)If your alt wasn't on a different/new PSN you likely weren't put back into the rookie bracket.
3)Players using keyboard and mouse do not get the benefit of aim assistance, which accounts for a lot in dust. You are not at a disadvantage.
4)Instant battle just throws you into the regular queue with whatever you had previously selected, instead of requiring you to menu to the respective window. Queue times can be a bit lengthy at times, but they're not awful compared to say mechwarrior onlines community warfare (a game I personally enjoy, though I *have* sat in queue for over an hour on it).
5)You can use myofibril stimulants to modify your jump height.
6)Are you entirely sure that you were hitting your target at an appropriate range? I'm not sure what weapon you were using but if you were well outside your optimal that could explain a lot.
7) Some militia gear isn't that great - its designed to push you towards using an actual suit, but aside from reduced magazine sizes, ammo carried and increased cpu/pg MLT guns are often no different than their non-mlt counterparts. I highly recommend using a MLT caldari heavy frame with an armor repairer, shield recharger, assault rail, bolt pistol and flux grenade - all mlt grade, it's a surprisingly robust suit
Overall it sounds like you're having some issues with basic gameplay (moving, aiming, shooting, situational awareness) and are getting trounced because of a lack of system mastery (I'm not the greatest MWO player ever, but I don't rage because I'm not at the top when I haven't put the same amount of effort into it that i have at dust).
