This is straight off MAG ! Sounds so similar to Dust, should some of the things in here be incorporated into Dust 514 ?? Discuss !!
"MAG used a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into eight-player squads, with four squads forming a platoon, and four platoons forming a company. Each squad is led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system. Character statistics and development also increase with frequent gameplay. The players assigned leadership positions are able to simultaneously direct the battle and participate directly in combat.
Version 2.0 introduced a new skill tree and also a supply depot for purchasing weapons. Now, in the skill tree there are individual classes in which players can spend their skill points. These classes include Assault, Marksman, Close Quarters, Special Ops, Medical, Engineering, Athleticism, Vehicles, and Resistances, which then branches off into their own skill tree. Players now in the supply depot have a balance which is money that is earned from every match. So instead of getting the weapons/attachments in the skill tree they can now be purchased separately. After an item is bought players have the choice of selling that item for half of its original price. Patch v1.05 introduced a modified leadership selection algorithm that relies on using leadership points that are earned by winning battles while being at least a squad leader and whether the player has a Bluetooth headset or not.
Basic battles take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play. The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and armored personnel carriers (APCs) to airplanes.
Players are able to customize the face, voice, and armor of their characters, as well as what weapons and kit they carry into battle.[6][17] In game, the player can level up to 70 on any faction. After achieving level 70, players may enter the Veteran mode and select a new faction (or, if a player chooses so, Veteran in the same faction as before). Veteran mode wipes out the current progress and makes the player start from scratch, although the medals, ribbons, statistics and the leadership points player has earned in the past remain intact. Player also receives a +10% XP bonus which increases the leveling speed. Veteran bonuses do not stack, which means that the +10% remains no matter how many times player has used this mode. Aside from that, player receives a star insignia under his current rank which is used so the experienced players are not confused with newcomers. The number of the stars indicate how many times the player has reached level 70."
Although the Leveling System will not he incorporated, we have Loyalty Ranks.
* My other question I'd like answered is why doesn't Dust have more people per team. MAG was 32 vs 32 |

The complete lack of funds, R&D, and a full dev team pretty much crushes any hopes for actually advancing this game beyond it's current state with anything more than minor fixes and polishes.

Move to it PS4 to pursue a bigger thing... They have no idea how much money they could make by just moving the game. If the cost is what's worrying them they would make more money than they would lose. |

They would basically have to recreate the entire game from scratch. The only hope for DUST evolving into the future is Legion. If legion is canceled, DUST will never become more than it is right now.

Don't know what "both" you speak of, but MAG was/will-always-be better than DUST 514. That's just pretty much all there is, even older game's, like Section 8 and S8 Prejudice, they're old and much better Sci Fi shooter's than dust, the Battlefield franchise, hell i'd hate to admit but CoD, and must I say? GUNDAAAAAAM! (for those of you who don't know this I was immitating setsuna).

The devs once claimed to successfully do a large battle on a map with redlines removed, during internal testing. Can't remember how many people they said they fit in there. It was quite a bit.
Why they decided not to make it public, I don't know.

Wow, I haven't had to shut down a Mag lover in quite awhile.
Okay, first off - Mag was a failure.
The much hyped server architecture was going to allow 128v128 battles, even more once it was fully tuned! It failed upon release, the press opinions were that the lack of a significant beta was much of the reason. As in, it played well for the devs but not in the real world. Very soon after release the entire server/network system was ripped out and replaced with a more traditional solution. Somewhat better than what CCP delivers today.
The development studio was owned by Sony. Which means that Sony owns the much hyped failure server design. Nobody wants it, one might suspect the failure being much of the reason. Said development studio was shut down, terminated, cancelled, killed, disbanded and otherwise dissolved by Sony. It's IP is still own by Sony and word is that nobody wants it.
It's Mag, Jim. I don't know how to tell you this, it's dead.
Mag didn't have the massive cultural baggage of EVE Online to support. The vast selection process, for better or worse, is a lot of busy work - straight out of EVE. It does provide for many hours tinkering with fits for drop suits and vehicles. Not even counting the agony of spending SP incorrectly, or to have it the much desired skill finally be available only to have it receive the Nerf Hammer of Doom with the very next Hotfix From Heck.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall Mag having a huge Skill Tree either. It was more like; get 32 guys and go fight those 32 other guys. More CoD level futzing with weapons and not much else.
Dust514 has significant memory use and processor loading with the current design. A simpler Mag style game could have more active players but each would be much more limited in equipment and class/function for battles. There are many games that do that now. Converting Dust to become a CoD clone, or worse a MAG styled failure, seems like a bad idea.
But that is just me.
My favorite tank is a Lightning. Just sayin.

If I recall the whole reason MAG died was due to Sony Getting Hacked and was offiline for 3-5 Months it seemed. That's also when Socom died. |
