I've been playing EVE since 2011, not the longest stint in comparison to many people who still log into New Eden or have a super on standby, but enough time to witness first hand Incarna and the fallout from it.
I went from lv.4 highsec missions straight to lv.4 Sansha missions in Stain, keeping with the very same Nighthawk hull that survived its transformation from a Ferox to a Drake, returned to highsec once more to take part in the Minmatar Militia after the factional warfare overhaul in the Inferno expansion. Following the milita corp I had joined, we became lowsec pirates in Heimatar for awhile, until the boredom from inactivity drove me back to the militia.
2014 rolls around, and a friend of mine from my past alliance, who I had mentored into getting into EVE in the first place, explained to me about an influx of players following a 'famous' StarCraft streamer who were going to try and rough it out as a brand new corporation in Syndicate. While I knew to be disappointed, my experience with the game so far set me apart from the other week old newbies, and I ended up making great friends amongst the people there who were merely alts from larger alliances.
And since the death of that useless corporation, I landed myself a sponsorship slot straight into Goonwaffe. Spent about 4 months in the GSF wormhole corporation, in a C4 static c3 c5, before returning to K space. Tidi fleet fights, small gang cap escalation PvP, taking lowsec r32s for fun and profit, even running my own blops group out of providence to strike brave newbies still happily seated in Catch with my Sin alt. All in all, I'd like to say I've been able to dip my fingers, perhaps shallowly, in almost every part of EVE minus Mining, Industry - And Dust514.
But Dust, I had tried before. During the beta, and even after its may 14th release. Starting off as an Amarr Logistics suit, I kept his skillqueue going in hopes of the day I may see myself and my group of close capsuleers ready to rain hot plasma onto the PlayStation players in Molden Heath. And just recently, the GPU in my PC burned and died. Seeing as most my setup was old 2008 technology, I decided to go ahead and purchase a new PC. In the mean time, why don't I fire up the PS3 again, give Dust514 a try....but, why try anymore?
Perhaps it's a mere design flaw of the 'matchmaking system' that's designating an older character like my own into such matches, but I am not exaggerating at all when I say that up to 80% of all my matches played are one-sided slaughterfests. Blaming it on protostomping isn't the excuse either - Surely it must cost a lot for those players who go 18+/1 in matches, so that's balanced....Right?
I see it as plain as day really, the lack of any amount of teamwork on my own team. Whereas my opponents rush the objectives staying in groups, my own team just feeds themselves one by one as cannon fodder, stopping in the middle of roads to return fire, slowly trying to solo flank their enemy, and otherwise proving that it's not my opponents who beat me with their skill, but my own team mates who defeat ourselves through sheer incompetence. Sometimes I do get lucky though, and get matched to the team that successfully turtles 1 of the 5 control points through the entire match.
I don't have the isk to afford losing more than 5 protosuits per match, or else I gladly would give it a try. So I wanted to ask some questions to people here who might have a better understanding on how to not be chosen for the mentally handicapped team.
1. How do I leave this matchmaking hell that consistently places me on teams with people who insist on playing this game like team fortress? I've almost given up on remote repairing people, since they get this strange idea that while under reps, they're invincible and can sprint straight through no mans land.
2. How do I make isk aside from having to suit down? Right now I'm comfortable using Advanced suits/weapons with Enhanced Mods, the cost typically doesn't outweigh the rewards. Reading the forums, I see people talking about having more isk than they know what to do with.
3. How do I find a competent squad that knows how to do more than just set objective markers, play open mic with music in the background, and speak Portuguese/spanish? Squad finder is apparently littered with wanna-bes from my experience playing in them, and I can no longer trust whatever it is they may name their squad.
4. How do I still be a productive team member even if I have no team to play/rely on/work with? When getting completely steamrolledbby a protostomping team, Alls I can do is simply resort back to my BPO set and try my best with impunity, and yet its precisely this downgrading of gear that only further seals my own teams fate. But why should I waste isk, trying to be better, if my own team won't be better?
5. How do I counter Mass Drivers?

To address you point #2. If you want to use expensive gear and still make ISK, try running with a buddy/squad who has a nanite injector. Revives will save you tons of cash.
As for me, I made hundreds of millions of ISK simply running MLT and STD fittings and ranking high. Focusing on my contribution to the team over my own personal agenda resulted in my earning more ISK in the end. |

Wait I'm confused, Nanite Injectors actually work? I've tried using them countless times on fallen teammates and either nothing happens, nothing happens and I die by what killed them, or nothing happens and their body gets destroyed. I mean, I've the popup for it and got maybe, like 8 people up in my total history, but I thought it was a bug that still hasn't been fixed. |

1. The only way is to get a corp together and do PC
2. Making ISK right now is easier than it's ever been. CCP made it so players are getting ISK thrown at them now without any effort being put forth. If you're barely making money at advanced, you're dying too often, because you're "playing this game like team fortress"
3. This is why I run solo most of the time. It's nearly impossible.
4. Scout ninja-hacker all the way. I do it all the time, and you die so rarely you'll be rolling in ISK in no time. Best thing is, the more your team sucks, the more there is for you to hack, because they can't do it themselves.
5. Depends on the situation: in close combat, rush them, and they'll probably kill themselves. Whenever possible, get above them, as only skilled MD users can hit a target with an elevation advantage on them. If they're elevated, snipe them, or just use a long-range weapon. Most MD users are bad at range. You can also usually out-DPS them if they're reckless, but you may have to resort to smashing their nanohives to beat them in a long fight, as even with MD ammo cap V, they still have a terrible ammo capacity. I know this because the mass driver is my baby. That being said, I'm good at range, not reckless, and I can hit a target with an elevation advantage on me. So good luck.

Well, excuse me for this short stint of profoundness, I am not used to being logical on VAHZZ. Because he is a troll.
But, since you have actually hit me with surprisingly factual logic, why not? Now, In my twenty three years on this earth, I have amassed a pretty big index of games and I have played alot worse than DUST. Yet, I never gave up on any game, no matter how bad it was, unless I absolutely could not stand it.
You see, there is one problem with your statement. Why try? That right there, that small two worded question, infuriates me. "I can accept failure, everybody fails at something, but I can not accept not trying." - Michael Jordan. Yes, DUST is in a bad light right now. We are suffering from what the Old CCP Dev Team did to the Codex, nobody has seen the Master Codex except the old guard and the new CCP Rattati's team. We don't know how much of a state of decay it is in.
But you have to have faith. We are in a much better place than we were, that is for sure. CCP Rat Man has brought this game from the brink of despair and is slowly making it better. "Don't quit. Never give up trying to build the world you can see, even if others can't see it. Listen to your drum and your drum only. It's the one that makes the sweetest sound." - Simon Sinek.

In order to have them function a downed player must assert that they 'want' to be revived. This following waves of trolling by reviving players in positions that were both inopportune and also immediately after their death. A prompt should appear over the heads of downed players if they want a revive.
Countering Mass Drivers is a matter of closing in on them I find. They are incredibly effective at medium ranges and in enclosed areas however I find that they suffer at close range where you can land more hits on them with assault weapons.
FW channels usually are able to provide good squads in a semi competitives scene and allows for EVE pilots to earn LP and provide orbital strikes however I cannot think of a channel that both meets your requirements of allowing music in the background [It's too much of a distraction in FW] and speaks that languages you prefer.
The three or four FW channels I can name off the top of my head are run my a primarily English speaking community however that doesn't mean they wouldn't enjoy having your with them.
Finally having been an EVE player surely you mush have considered that PC, the highest tier of competitive gameplay, would not simply be a matter of turn up and blap the Dusters with Plasma right?

The trick to playing pubs, especially solo, is to not try.
Just float around the outside and kill strays away from the group. Practice your 1v1 gun game. Practice 2v1 gun game.
Once you start trying though, its an unescapable trap. You'll get gunned down by the squad that does nothing but stick within 20m of each other so that they don't have to use any form of gun game or skill, but rely on sheer numbers, HP, and superior gear to overwhelm any opposition.
As awful as it sounds, with the current matchmaking, the only way to play is to play like a scrub, because your blue dots don't know how to do anything.

This is why I don't enjoy pubs at all while in a squad 90% of the time. They suck solo as well, but I feel like I need to try to win when squadded up. Then when you figure out that a couple of your squad mates have eased back with a range weapon and you've just killed three people while protecting an uplink near the point only to get shotgunned in the back....
The combined MU of the squads I usually run with are probably pretty high. I feel like I always get put in with 10 dudes trying to complete an enemy kill assists while in a vehicle mission or more than a handful of dudes trying to be Glenn Hathcock. Yet somehow I end up getting annoyed by snipers for long stretches of pubs. Or a blaster tank camping ground spawn while there are five tankers on my team.
I usually sign on and run a pub or two if there is nobody syncing FW in NF. I'd bet I end up leaving at least 80% of those battles out of frustration from lack of effort. Then I'll start desperately looking for a squad because I want to get in some brawls before I go do real life stuff. And about that time a spot in a sync is open.
Then I am involved in near instant redlines for two or three matches where I go 5-0 with 400 WP. As low key as it is, it's a lot of fun in NF syncs. You (speaking to anyone) should try Drunk Night this Friday. Negative_Feedback is the channel.

as for massdrivers... they usually cant kill u while u are shooting at them. sounds retardedly simple advice i know, but its true. dont be stubborn either though, if u get hit before u know where the shooter is exactly just evacuate the area. hence the scanner is your freind.

You either crumble down and give up or you adapt and try what ever you can as a solo player. Otherwise you have to accept that this is a team game.
I know about the absolutely one sided messes as a solo player.
The thing that really annoys me is right before the final matchmaking 'update'... matchmaking had some other tweaks and for a good few weeks matches were regularly intense, hard fought battles where the majority of both teams were in there or contributing in some way.

OP I recommend you start out with joining a highly active Q sync channel for one of the factions. Getting a feel for playing with 12 - 16 players on your team is a great step in the move up to joining a PC corporation.
