Just got out of a battle... 2015.06.02 19:20 Eve time It seemed that the wispy cloud overlay (?) caused a major disruption in gameplay. Indoors my character ran just fine, but as soon as I got outside, with any action going on.... it started to stutter and blip all over the place.
I know I have a good connection, and I know that my system is one of the higher performing options for Dust, so this is somewhat irritating.
At the end of the battle I was unable to target anything, as it was looking to be literally 2-3 FPS. I tried an LAV, to run around, and surprisingly, that did not affect the hangups as much as I thought it would. The speed of the player movement did not seem to aggravate the situation, only rotation and any close combat.
The reason I believe it to be the weather effect, is because I just played the same map not one game ago, with none of this fragmented framerate. Hence the only thing that changed was the environment "mood".
I noticed that it started slowing down mere moments before the clouds start crossing the screen. Not exactly sure what is going on, but eh.

But its pretty. The artists simple love it, love, love, love it.
It wastes resources and it makes playing the game a hassle.
To find out how much, check out my sig.

Had another encounter with the hangup, but was too tired to note the time. (will try to do in future) However, I did notice that it seemed to be on the same map as prior (only there was no fog effect this time, and the stutter followed me underground)
Game started out with everything running incredibly smoothly, but as the game progressed, the quality of play began to fall, steadily toward the end.
This makes me believe, that there is definitely a memory leak of some kind compounding the issue.
If there was some kind of "refresh" option on the death menu that would re-initialize the malleable parts of the battlefield, I think that could be used as a stopgap player-based method for resolving the hangup spikes.

Does it improve your 'mood'? That is the burning question.
The devs developed them as mood overlays and, in theory, they should not draw heavily on the system as they are merely shader programs (GPU feature). It might be worth investigating, by a Dev, to establish what the actual load on the system is for all the shaders driven moods.
Maybe that one generates a heavier load?

Had another issue at 2015.07.05 08:19--- incredibly sketchy after crash (dropship)
What happened: I spawned inside of a dropship, and It was shot from the sky as I spawned in. I jumped out only to get a "fell and died" notice when the ship was 20m in the air passing over a rock. DS blew up behind me a bit away. Respawned, and game started hanging like crazy. Until that point (last death on death map) the game was playing fine.

After update:
2015.07.08 07:30 -- different map, but effect the same. Seems like it gets laggy when I get close to certain people on the enemy team... Mina Longstrike seems to have the highest breakup around it. CONFIRMED--- player proximity is causing the disruption. I spawned away from the fight and all the jitters disappeared.

4 straight games last night with unplayable lag. 4 different maps and only 3 had environmental effects. The more Mass Driver spam the worse the lag.....
All of the games were between 5 UTC and 7 UTC. The larger maps seem and explosive spam seem to be the issue. The farther away from the fighting the better the lag got but most of the games I was just jerking through 1-2 frames per second by the end. |
