This is how I see the various suit roles.
This does not have to conform to your view, it is an opinion, and a brainstorm. I do not have to be right. If you disagree with me post an alternative. Odds are, believe it or not, your alternative falls neatly into my overview.
Assault: Rifleman, AKA standard line infantry. General purpose troops with the training and flexibility to locate, close with and destroy the enemy, whether that role is charging lines with rifle fire, repelling oncoming attack or breaching rooms with support weapons. Generally the assault is not a "slayer" so much as a team supported combatant.
Sentinel: Supporting heavy weapon operation. Sentinels provide overwatch at choke points, keep people out of important areas (keep them out of the installation entirely, not fighting them in it) and providing rolling suppressive fire on enemy positions in support of an assault push.
Logistics: Unfortunately the Logi is the ubiquitous support suit. Maybe a little too ubiquitous. Perfirming the roles of medic, supply, sapper, support fire and equipment repair all at once these versatile dropsuits are the go-to units to keep an entire squad fully operational. Alternately they can be purpose- built for ambushes and destruction, deploying mines and explosives to massacre unaware enemy infantry and vehicles.
Scouts: obviously recon, which everyone tries to shoehorn them (especially when they never run them), or assassination, which seems the preferred playstyle. But skirmisher is an excellent use, attacking from flanks at high speed while allies assault the front. Then of course the least-employed role: bait. I cannot count the number of times I've been led into focused squad fire by a wounded scout.
Commando: Shocktrooper. The short range suppression version of the sentinel. Kicking in doors and fighti ng down corridors would br the natural meat and potatos of the commando, in support of assaults, or diving onto enemy vehicles lime rabid wolves when said enemues decide CQC is the place to be. Commandos should be one of the go-to suits along with scouts for countering and destroying sentinels for different reasons.
Best deployment for a sentinel would be a chokepoint with a wide open field of fire. The access points of the orbital artillery socket should be the go-to location for a sentinel to set up the unwelcome mat. Best in teams of two.
Assaults: in groups. It's where they are most lethal.
Logi: in groups with assaults. The latest changes should make them more viable for the job rather than being permanently tethered to a sentinel's ass.
Scouts should really be the only independant operators. Running in teams doubles (or worse) the odds of getting ferreted out and killed.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.
