Can turrets made to do more on the battlefield?
I think they should be turned up to super aggressive (maybe only against infantry) for a patch to see how it changes the dynamics of the game - people will be afraid of them rather than laughing at them for the joke that they are at the moment.
Increasing the HP was a massive step in the right direction but they are still pretty much useless.
And how about putting some thought into where they are placed? enough of this crap like putting them at the foot of a building where there is no visibility except towards your own spawn area - lets give them some useful fields of view rather than placing them where they are most useless..
How about small - mountable AND autonomous turrets, like a ceiling mounted blaster to deter campers from 'the high spots'?
I understand they are sockets like the buildings in a way but maybe you can treat them more like large pieces of scenery and place them with more flexibility?
Or how about having them as deployable's from the Neocom - calling them on a spot like we do with vehicles?
I just feel like they don't do an awful lot at the moment and it's a shame. |

All turrets used to automatically target infantry. As a result, you were better off not manning a turret, because their AI is too accurate.
There used to be small blaster installations in closed beta, but I don't know why they were removed.

1. Relocate all turrents for Pubs and FW 2. Remove all turrents from PC and half from FW 3. Make them purchaseable and placeable for PC and FW only 4. Make aggressive AI that attacks all enemies but with very poor aim

Ow i remember the old turrets. Their AI was glorious.
If you would give a wrong look at one of them, it would snipe you within 2 seconds.

I never had any problems with the old Turrets. It was all a matter of avoiding the laser pointer.
I've always wondered, that since we have micro repair options, and large structures tend to not blow up as easily, why the turrets completely vaporize, instead of entering a "destroyed" state, from which one could rebuild the object using a repair tool.
This extends to Supply Depots as well... a massive source of nanomachines cannot repair itself with regularity? Eh, always felt a bit confusing really.

IMO, if Turret Installations had a faster turn speed they'd be much more deadly and viable and a real, legitimate battlefield threat.

If you made sure not to run through the laser sight, you would be ignored mostly, unless you went into its immediate defense range with a vehicle, which would attract its attention.
Most people who say "random" just mean "I wasn't paying attention to the pattern."

Nice to learn that there are still players here who remember the 2010 - 2013 experiences with the maps. It's also nice to see a thread where practically all the posts are valid and correct.
The AI of the Installations during those years was as HIGH and ultra-efficient as the high OI (organic intelligence) that CCP assumed WE PLAYERS would have had when playing Dust.
Okay , we've fallen short of the devs expectations about how cleverly and intelligently we could play this game,GǪ But it was clear that the Installations' performance HAD to be dummied down. An installation as smart as the 2013-versions are great for the huge maps in PC matches, but were like great white sharks on the goldfish-bowl sized Pub match maps. As a player, you either had to think about evading the Installations, or think about fighting the enemy team, but you couldn't easily do both.
The idea of repping an Installation in order to extend its value in the match, was used alot by players like me before 2014, and should be allowed to make a comeback. I haven't seen a player repping a turret in a long time.
"Owning" and Installation is actually part of the original concept of Dust: EVE Capsuleers would purchase the type and number of defensive Installations to guard her district. We squad leaders would "call in" an Installation delivery from a Capsuleer in orbit, the way we call in an orbital strike.
Limiting how many Installations can be expected (or called in) on a PC map, as being different from a FW map or Pub map, is valid too. (I've always tried to suggest that, although we had to weaken the Installation-potency in Pubs/FW, the ORIGINAL AI and range and hp used in 2013 is perfectly appropriate for a vast PC map---and Installations should be given their full muscles whenever they're used in PC matches--ONLY in PC matches.)
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

It was supposed to be much more useful. We were supposed to be able to skill into turrets, and buy them! Crazy, right. You would be able to call them into the field, wherever you wanted! Not to mention, that holo table, in the war room, supposed to be functional! Crazy, right? So anyways there's supposed to be a field commander, that sits in the war room and can see everything going on, in the battle. Then, they can call out things, call things in, turrets. The ideas behind this game were so impressive. Sigh, if only

In an ambush OMS I went 26 kill streak (30 and 4 overall) on a 500k sp character the other day, it was beautiful, real balls to the wall for most of it, if only i'd recorded it.
anyway, installations are broken at the moment and for my second piece of self promotion, here is a thread trying to fix it
