Up until now, I suspect we have all thought of the Small Blaster Turret as a logical "middle child" weapon comfortably between the Gall Assault Rifle and the (Gall?) Blaster Installation. (Recently CCP has tried to recognize the Small Blaster Turret must stay a hair more destructive than the Min HMG variants too).
But I suggest the small blaster be given an ILLOGICAL treatment, and looked at differently:
Slightly increase (yes, INCREASE) the dispersion pattern of fire, so that rounds are spread over a wider area than the aiming circle impliesGǪ. to decrease the need for pinpoint accuracy required to "hit" "something".
Substantially Increase the HP-per-round, so that any round that does connect reduces protection by 150 or more pointsGǪ. to induce more enemy-fleeing and more frequent headshot-deaths.
Slightly increase the range enough that enemy can be engaged earlier during the vehicle's approach, and be induced to take evasive actions sooner. This allows the gunner to provide needed support or rescue for buddies even when the chance for scoring a kill is slight.
This essentially makes the small blaster turret a "Jr Blaster Installation", no longer the weaker middle-child.
There are factors related to WHEN the small blaster turret is being fired, that make this illogical idea more suitable: 9 out of 10 times the small blaster turret is being fired from a sporadically moving platform (HAV, DS or Lav), where the gunner has little MIC comm with her driver. The constantly evasive and unpredictable motions of the platform mean that the turret hardly ever gets to fire under intended dispersion/hp profile. Movement is constantly handicapping any fair use of the turret.
6 out of 10 times, the small blaster turret is brought in to engage a a cluster of enemy players defending a valued location or trying to assault the turret's carrier-vehicle. The turret gunner doesn't have the luxury of shooting at one red at a time---during half her engagements she has to resort to "fanning" her blaster turret over two or more enemy at once, hoping to break them up more than actually score 3 kills.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
