By that I mean creating an Outfit(Corp) which is a big factor because like they say strength in number. Right now its more like run wild and free but no real way of moving as a unit, plus in game chat sucks |

Have not even turned my PS4 on in over a month.
PS. I found Garden Warfare to be a funner shooter on the PS4 than PS2.

I am playing the beta now.
It's fun, but there isn't a lot happening because the amount of people is small.
When it does launch though, I will be fighting for Vanu.
I can only imagine what dust could be with some similar mechanics from PS2.
Minnmitar in Amarr armor.
A Wolf in Sheeps clothing.
May the Empress live till she graces my sights.

I'm have been playing it a bit over the past week. I (and a few friends from ML) are all playing Vanu.
The game is pretty good, but I find the spread out nature of the battles a bit frustrating in that real action is fairly rare and generally not all that intense. I also find telling the difference between friend and foe very challenging.
The NPE is terrible, even worse than Dust. Perhaps that will change with its general release.
I really like the mechanics and the relatively flat skill tiers. The weapon/suit balance is also pretty darn close with no clear FOTM like we have in this game. Visually the game is stunning, and its vehicle and aircraft selection is superb.
That said, I'm not sure it will hold my attention long term unless there's a competitive aspect (like we have, or should I say had, with PC), and no MKB support is a huge issue for me, personally, which I'm attempting to solve (with a Venom X). |

I played it for about 3 hours on the PC and it was just so empty. Sure, there were a lot of players, but it felt like nothing any one person did meant anything. Just two lines of people sitting a mile away from eachother trying to get kills or hundereds of people fighting on stairs trying to take a base. The weapons, classes and vehicles also felt bland and forgettable they didn't take up the slack of the stale gameplay.
And don't even get me started on the progression system. Within the first few moments of Dust you're unlocking things left right and centre, but I wasn't even close to getting anything on that. But I could just unlock the best stuff in the game permanently for -ú7 an item.
Admittedly, things might be different now; that was a few years ago. Though, looking at the steam player counts, it doesn't seem worth it. There's almost the same amount of people playing Dust as there is PS2 but spread over 5 servers. And I have no intentions of getting a PS4.
We want cake and tea.

PS2 should of been a Dust killer, but with they how handled the beta through 2 closed beta requiring codes and separating people from there friends - when it finally does come out a good portion of the community will already be burnt out or overly experienced compared to everyone else.
Progression is a joke, gear differences are a joke, models are WORSE THEN DUST, and the majority of terrain is uninteresting as Dust is, so exploring it has the same value as Dust - you're just being useless.
So let's break down the games for a second in it's different mechanics, enjoyability, and character progression, as these are the three most important elements separating FPS's from one another.
Mechanics - PS2 beats Dust on this end - with the addition of air combat and tanks not being too over-powered vs infantry, the mechanics running smoothly with each other really brings you into a 'battle' experience. Smooth Frame Rate, amazing hit detection, no broken/buggy mechanics to give you a serious edge, PS2 is just programmed better by more capable people. But there's more to look at and do in Dust then in Planetside, whose pretty much a tunnel vision version of Dust.
character progression - Dust wins, PS2 has no real character progression, and what progression it does has is very closely Dust related, you could even call it Dust's down-syndrome cousin. You won't feel accomplished with your character in PS2 because of how you set it up, you won't feel involved in your character at all for pretty much any reason as there's literally no meta in this game what so ever for the community. Dust, on the other hand, is the bi-polar opposite. We invest in our characters, build them how they want, and then build a reputation for them in our community to market them as an individual, and each of our characters can be VERY different from one another - even with the same play styles. It's absolutely absurd how badly Dust beats PS2 in this regard, and both being F2P games.
Enjoyability - can't rate this one, I enjoy dust more because investment in character and progression means more to me then smooth frame rate. Both can be enjoyable, but Dust can be enjoyable at any given time, while PS2 relies heavily on population count. When I think about both games future - PS2 has none, what we can expect is new weapons "WITH THE SAME MODELS, YOU AREN'T CCP, YOU HAVE A FULL TEAM WITH BUDGET WTF!* and possibly a few gear pieces. No events or anything of the sort that i know of are planned. While Dust plans events all the time.
Summery - Dust sucks, but PS2 sucks more. |
