They no longer hold the patent for it. Rattati scrapped it because dust is now making CCP money.

Rattati doesn't get to make those kind of decisions. Plenty of bosses above him can't make that kind of call, scrapping a project is a call made by the guys back in Iceland.

sorry to burst your bubble but dust IS NOT MAKING CCP MONEY.
there is a large difference between a game that is making profit and a game that has cause a loss in a company you then write off (as in other parts of the company make up the difference on the money you lost on investing in the doomed project, ie EVE online in this case) and then call the remaining earned money "profit"
overall dust has been a loss for CCP. there just spinning it for PR

Legion is and was a temporary title, they said this at the round table when they announced it. They dropped the name, that doesn't mean they don't already have a new one they will prop a final one up when they are ready.
Don't think about that, think about all the money.

I'm not surprised that they dropped the name, I wouldn't be surprised if the PC version ends up being called Dust 2 or something similar. |

A trademark being allowed to expire does;t mean the project is dead. "Legion" was the code name. If ccp had gotten a reaction like Valk did, Legion would of been greenlited and the name would of stuck. They did not, however, get that reaction. So why keep it as the name?
My guess was ccp was prepared in case they DID get the reaction valk did. |

well as ccp is no longer going to publicly post financials we have no way of knowing for sure. |

If CCP stopped working on Legion, the devs that were sent to work on it would have been heard from. Not necessarily heard talking about Legion, but we would see them elsewhere.

Good perspective. Because.

Sometimes something has to die before something new can be created.
So perhaps both DUST514 and the dream of Legion will fail, become obscure, be forgotten, get ignored, lose players, become unprofitable, be unable to provide matches due to the lack of regular players, etc.
But in the meantime we can still play with our friends, have a few laughs and if no one shows up to a match we can fly around like lunatics in our dropships having dodgem derby races.
Then, at some future year, all the assets developed for DUST514 and Legion will be reimagined into a new name and released on a platform that makes sense at that time.
So if Legion is dead it doesn't mean that the dream of playing an immortal mercenary in the Eve universe is gone, just sleeping.
Perhaps it will just get a new name in a couple off years and be the same but very different from what we imagined.
Yes, my name is Latvian, I know .... well done.

And that number is shrinking by the day. Compare that to the reported 125 million active users on Steam and growing, and you can see why CCP probably should have gone the PC route to begin with. |

Oh, don't get me wrong.
I know all this. Just saying that the idiot who did the Dust presentations back in the day kept this as their main argument. He went pretty silent by now. Just a pawn in the game, but it was hilarious to hear them say that. Pretty delusional if you ask me, but then again - so is Project Legion it seems. |
