Somebody told me that caldari dropships are not viable. I don't know if he is right or not but I like to either prove him wrong or take the challenge.
I am not a dropship expert or rich, I fully expect this to be a rather expensive / frustrating venture.
I have 13.5 mill sp, on another toon which I plan to focus on.
How should I allocate my sp? Any recommended fits?
And as always, thank you for your time and knowledge. |

don't fly dropships as a newbro. They are hard to learn how to fly, expensive if you want to kill things with them and the AV weaponry right now (swarms) are OP. Skill into tanks if you want to be a KD *****
dropships are a no-no for new-bro

Myron is amazing. Works very well with 2 missile gunners. 2 x heavy basic shield extenders 1 x Basic Shield Hardener 1 x basic scanner Complex PG upgrade Complex CpU Upgrade
2 x MT-1 Missile Launchers
I specialize in plasma cannons.
I also hate snipers with a passion.

Don't hit things, collision damage for shield dropships is quite ridiculous. Armor dropships can survive hitting many things, a shield dropship will be lucky to survive a graze. Shield regen is fast but can be delayed by damage unlike their armor counter parts, running when hit is very important, fit an afterburner. Don't worry about fitting armor in your lows, as a rule with shield vehicles you need shields to survive and you need extra fitting mods in the lows to get those shields. Don't overstay your welcome. Try to always be a moving target and have some altitude to trade for speed. Don't be surised when invisible av starts hitting you from everywhere. Try and learn. Dropships are always more fun with friends, bring some along.
Good luck, fly safe o7

It's just the fact we've got Proto AV balanced for Proto tanks but only standard dropships and LAV's.

Swarms are overpowering vs Dropships.

Friendly advice: for that total SP you got, don't go dropshipping yet. You need many more things before. Just have a cheap basic DS as a lift to get to high positions.
On the main topic, yes caldari dropships are viable yet they are quite not as durable. And they are very vulnerable to ramming...
Looking at both sides of the coin.

They aren't designed to take concentrated fire for too long, they are dropships, not gunships. |

I don't see why players might think myrons are any harder to use than grimsnes... grimsnesi? They just handle slightly differently.
I have whatever the vehicle shield recharge delay skill is maxed out. Seems to help. I also highly suggest afterburners. They give you the boost you need to escape and let your shields recharge, which they will quickly.

Learn to fly first. Gal DS is easier than Cal DS to learn in because the Cal DS is so maneuverable it will sling you around and easily slam you into things like the ground.
Learn in a standard DS, not a militia. They are easier to fly becasue CCP made them easier with a different flight mechanic that evens the ship out automatically.
Learn evasive maneuvering. Learn to fly in a way that increases your ability to pick up speed fast and to present a moving target. Namely, never go directly forward or backward. Always yaw then roll and thrust to the side and swing around or serpintine from point to point.
The CPM candidate we need, not the one we want. The candidate for the rest of us.

Echo 1991 wrote:They aren't designed to take concentrated fire for too long Actually quite contradictory to what their in game blurb talks about. A dropship is supposed to be abnke to come in, drop off troops, support them and then leave; or inversely to come in and support, pick up troops and then leave.
Currently, it's get hit and immediately leave or die, abandoning your ground troops to their fate because if they get in then they're definitely dead, whereas they might be able to fight their way out on the ground!

it's obvious but i'll explain it for the new/slow ppl. it is harder coz by the time u activate ur hardners, your main hp tank is gone. as opposed to armor ds having a shield buffer and being able to rep while taking damage.

Don't be aggressive. With a Myron make sure you get in, get out.
If you are dropping people off, do so and get out of there etc. Especially if there is AV.
Here's how I fit mine
Complex light Extender Complex Booster Complex Scanner MCRU Basic Repairer CPU Proto Missile left side, proto rail right side.
Pretty versatile fit, and survivable enough to get out of most situations.

also remember that shield boosters can be interupted, so if ur using one make sure ur clear of all incoming damage before using it.
ppl have posted a few interesting fits here. i personally like 2x hardners (extra tanky or always ready) but it's personal preference and playstyle for the most part.
one last thing i will tell you is that you will most likley need to lvl up (the skill that reduces shield mods cpu usage, cant remember the name) to 3ish to be able to fit alot of decent mods. but the good news is this will allow u to build decent tanks too.
but seriously go armor first.

Best fitting advice and flying advice. The only thing I can add is try to use a myron as a support gunship. As in, activate hardner, get in range for your gunner, and be ready to pull out the second your hardeners are on cooldown. Shields are planty viable vs swarms, just dont expect alot of WP or try to dance your way out of trouble.
Also, regular dropships are best used on medium to large maps, your myron doesnt have the maneuvarability to dodge redline installations the way a python can. Once you understand the range of those installations on each map, you'll understand which parts of the map you should or shouldn't fly in.
Redline for Thee, but no Redline for Me.
