This is based mostly on devaluing video games based on trending assumptions if you read the fine print. There wasn't an actual loss in dollars or annual cash flow, just a loss reported by analysts which will swing stock investors.
So once again the stock market is being stupid and will cause a company still generating money to get into a bad spot. It has happened before. This is partly what drives the software development model crazy and why half finished products are released early so they can be valued high, then the team is slashed and the stock values are cashed out. Whether the software gets continued attention usually comes down to investor disposition after the cash out.
In so many ways the stock market ruins smart business practices. Just look at the drug development market.
With the team chat gone, we need to really start leveraging the squad finder!

The Stock Market is no more based on real world assets than the market in Eve.
Remember that time that the whole thing collapsed? When it all started unraveling the CDS (credit default swap) market was estimated to be over 60 trillion dollars (almost as much as the global GDP). CDS were the "insurance" on crappy investment vehicles, in quotes because it wasn't the same as insurance as there wasn't any capital required to be held to back the insurance.
The main CDS company was AIG. AIG made an attempt to liquidate all of the whole life insurance policies they subsidiary companies held in the state of Texas. Luckily the Texas legislature for the first time in who knows when actually told a big business to get ******.
One can only assume that people just went into their database and highlighted and deleted all that money from out of thin air.
Tomorrow some software program could react to some human error and CCP could become the most powerful company in the world for a day.

I think the really important number in there is that Eve dropped by like 7 million in revenue from 2013 to 2014.
I think this shows exactly why CCP is grasping at so many straws trying to make something else work to fill that revenue gap. Unfortunately if they continue to mismanage projects and burn 10s of millions of dollars on things that wallow in mediocrity at best the story is not going to end well.
Maybe their investors will finally force upper level management to shape up or ship out before it is too late.
WoD went for many many years without even seeing a playable demo.
Dust only survived because they had made an agreement with Sony to maintain it for a certain amount of time so they had no choice but to try to salvage some money out of it.
The public relations night mare formerly known as Project Legion almost killed Dust with out ever being anything more than a concept.
TONS of money is being burnt on VR projects which has proven time and time again to be a super niche area that fails to maintain a business on its own.
On a positive note even tho Eve is declining in revenues right now they are finally getting some new content and have really stepped up the new player experience so there really is some hope there.
Overall I have had a grim outlook on CCP for quite a while through my experiences in Dust, talking with long time Eve vets, and reading things that past Devs had said about them and this only supports those negative feelings. |

It's freaky how much public opinion can sway things.
It's like how everyone freaked out when hurricane sandy hit jersey, people in NY were scared of running out of gas so instead of putting a normal amount of gas in their cars they were filling up their tabs and that caused a gas shortage for a few weeks. Every station was empty, people were standing in line with tanks just to get a few gallons, the roads were empty.
All the while my 4 cyl jeep and was puttering around town with a lousy couple of gallons.
