I actually initially got into Dust because of watching CCP Praetorian fly (and crash almost immediately) that Gallente Fighter back in the 2009 stage demo. Part of why I love combined-arms games more than any other type is that I can fly not just with other pilots, but in support of the people on the ground who get the real work done.
Playing as infantry can be fun, as well as driving tanks or flying Dropships, but that's not enough sky for me.

Gods CARBON was beautiful for its capabilities. As a longtime DCS player and wannabe pilot, gameplay like that makes me seriously happy. It had an edge of promise to it that planetside or ARMA could never touch. I hope and pray that someday they find a way to work fighters back into the fold.
Afterall, the whole reason I joined DUST was to be Mobius's wingman back in BetaMax once fighters launched.

That is what Dust would have been on PC.
Let's hope we can still fly that at some point.

Let's hope we can still fly that at some point. What's worse is opening the art book they sold this year to find that fully painted up artwork of one.
If they bring the game to PS4, they'll have the resources to make these possible.

Let's hope we can still fly that at some point. Actually it wouldn't. Carbon, that engine, melted GPU's back when it was added to EVE. And it was just used for a small little room and a single character.
You can't run a game like DUST on that

To be fair eve players are notorious for having both some of the best PC setups in the world as well as some of the worse cruddiest old hardware. I suspect that the lack of cleaning out their crusty old GPU`s was the cause of melting GPU`s because many people had no problems.
Yes that engine was very demanding but it was possible for the devs to run the game at higher and crucially, lower poly counts depending on what they were doing.
Example - EVE character creator screen graphics / poly count VS EVE in captains quarters graphics / poly count (the two are vastly different)

I know quite a few EVE players using mechanical keyboards with macro keys and multiple monitors on something silly like a GTX 260.
