How about including a scanner as standard?
The current issue for Incubus is you choose either afterburner or scanner. They are needed together. Without afterburners an armor dropship is easy prey. Without a scanner the draw distance works against you. Not to mention that they have trouble with off-plane calculations as well*.
I haven't flown Pythons much, since last September frankly. But they have similar limitations.
Just a funny thought.
* if you don't understand the different plane issue, man the railgun turret on the north end of Line Harvest Skirmish. You can see many things but the infantry only rarely. Their icons are there. But as they are below the plane of the mount of the railgun turret they aren't drawn, most likely due to bad math (a CCP constant, chuckle). Thus, a lot of guess work goes into using that turret. Works fine for vehicles, though.

I'd rather have a damage mod or a heat sink than a scanner, just sayian.

What I am saying is they are more useful with a scanner, but are so fragile it is barely worth it. In fact with an Incubus, it isn't worth it. Without AB you're dead. Using PRO turrets I have never felt the need for a damage mod or heat sink. More rounds in the clip might change my mind though.
Until I can find some friends with mics to play with again, ADS is my only flying solution. With mics I have my Grimses set up differently.

I'd rather have a heat sink/damage mod for my blaster incubus. But I agree with you on the fact that the 1 high slot on the incubus is rather limiting,

I have one set up but hesitate to drop it until I know who we are playing. And if they are using PRO AV from the get go.

I have one set up but hesitate to drop it until I know who we are playing. And if they are using PRO AV from the get go. Well, as you said, I don't really use it often due to problems ADS's have with AV. But given the right opportunity, the blaster incubus is really fun. Like clearing those pesky pipes or rooftops? But at the same time, I feel like it needs a damage mod or a heat sink in order to actually kill infantry effectively. While sacrificing the AB in order to do so is mostly suicide. The blaster overheats too quickly IMO.
Which brings me to a question actually. Does the Incubus skill that increases ROF, also inherently increase heat buildup?
Edit: Back to your original idea though, wouldn't a built in AB be a more practical idea?

I think they just need to add an off-slot and add PG/CPU for it. Python should be 3/2 and Incubus should be 2/3

Just a couple of tweaks would make them somewhat usable versus the near total waste of time, SP and ISK they are now.
Oh well, Welcome to Dust.

No worries, the Ratman says dropships are on the list after tanks, so we'll just have to wait a little longer.
...hopefully.

An off-slot or built-in afterburner would work wonders for a lot of ADS ills. Additional slots let them build better ships; built-in afterburner would let them choose a utility high.

I would rather have a built-in mCRU like the old logi dropships.
Would also like the old afterburners back as an option. They were weird and effective, just in a different way from the new afterburners. The old ones were MUCH more powerful, but gave bursts of speed, rather than a steady boost like the current afterburners do. However, if you weren't careful, they would make you frontflip into the ground at a thousand miles an hour with all that power.

I didn't really start flying until after the change. Well, not with any intent beyond getting to the top of a building.
I would prefer leaving the built-in CRU in the new logo dropships.
