TL:DR: Complain about the skill tree.
to max your favorite weapons you spend 777,380SP and it gets you a measly 3% damage bonus to shields or armor
The makes the skill tree the ultimate troll, It pretends to be your friend when you first start playing the game , you Spend 621,480SP on sheild uprgrades to max it out and it gives you +25% to shields which gives a clearly noticable difference, but then it turns on you by charging a high price for a 3% bonus to armor or shields which can be hard to notice and does not unlock anything. |

Those that play EVE know not to skill a skill to 5 that does not unlock anything. It is only there for consistency.
The CPM candidate we need, not the one we want. The candidate for the rest of us.

A 3% bonus over players that have level 4 can really be the difference between killing or being killed. The difference it makes when going up against a player that has no proficiency is even greater. |

The game is designed to alter your behavior:
  1. To play in groups: the game favors packs of mercs over soloists. 2. To play for many hours per day: mission rewards. 3. To check in to your account at least every 48 hours: warbarge rewards. 4. To play for many months and years: The skill tree. If you want to be competitive, you have to catch up to everyone else who has already played the game for 2+ years now.
The entire game is designed to coerce your compliance, not to be something you can simply pick up and play for fun whenever you want. You will be punished for anything less than full commitment to it.
I personally choose punishment because I don't give a f*** what CCP wants me to do.

This is reminiscent of "cow clicker" style games. Timers instill the idea that by not logging in the player is somehow missing out. The consecutive login counter creates the illusion of progression since our monkey-brains think "Numbers going up, good!". The little orange circles that NEVER go away make players feel like they always have something left to do.
  It's all very manipulative.
There are days when I wish Dust 514 was either subscription based or buy-to-play like GW2. Sadly, I don't believe Dust 514 has the content necessary to justify those payment models.
