I'd support that at this point. Mainly for marketing purposes and the hopes of a bigger player base. Not only would you get a more readily, steady flow of a playerbase as this version of DUST has done, but you'd get the Valkyrie crowd too.

If Dust is on PS4, it would simply be a repeat of what happened with the PS3. It would start strong, then die as soon as the PS5 comes out, and we'll be in development limbo like we are now until CCP finishes their next port

I bought my first PS3 recently just to play this game (the story about it being profitable pushed me to finally jump in). As long as my stuff carries over in some meaningful sense, PS4 or PC makes no difference to me. |

DUST entered the generation 3 years before it was over.
Out of 10 years.
And out of those 3 years, it was in 2 out of beta.
CCP made a dumb dumb, and are now paying for it.
In addition, each subsequent generation is longer than the last, because the graphical horsepower compared to visual results has diminishing results. As such if the PS3/360 lasted for around 10 years, you can expect the PS4/XBONE to last 12-15.

You make a valid argument, but this generation there's a bit of a kicker - VR/AR is going to up the ante a wee bit, Oculus is recommending a R9 290 + semi-beefy processor/ram as a minimum hardware config.
Depending on where the processing ends up(microsoft is putting a lot of it in the AR headset), consoles might struggle a bit. Some of the interactive AR demos are exhibiting lag and you can bet they're running on serious hardware.
But agree that as far as traditional screen and basic VR gaming goes this console generation should have sexy long legs.

I would say processing power won't be that big an issue.
Considering Valkyrie is going to run on the PS4, and that game looks quite impressive visually, I wouldn't worry so much.

I know it's possible to do a character transfer from PSN to PC simply because the character data is already there. What worries me about a PSN-to-PC transfer is the possible screw ups and the sudden alienation of an entire console base.

I'm not ok with it for two reasons.
1. Microsoft wants a little more control over CCP's Tranquility server for that to happen which the thought of it creeps me out already.
2. Microsoft charges players a fee for online multiplayer even for free-to-play games on the Xbox. Sony doesn't require any payments to PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer if the game happens to be free-to-play (nice little exemption).

PS4 > PC > Xbone > Wii U
PS4 is the most logical, as we all have PS3s so have PSNs that work with the PS4, similar controllers, as its F2P wont require PSPlus to play online, simply the best option for consoles.
PC is next, as although CCP would prefer it as linking with Eve would be easier, it destroys the current playerbase, and the cost of PCs is high, and some console gamers simply dont want them.
Xbone after, although good enough to run Dust, having Microsoft fiddle with Tranquility, requiring Xbox Live to play any game online, and the fact that Character Transfer is highly unlikely do not help. Plus yknow, different controller and the fact PS4 is destroying the Xbone on sales, even though I have both.
Wii U is last for reasons I dont need to state as you can work it out yourself.

I have a pc and ps4. Would prefer ps4 so many of my friends could still play and also because it's only right that you take care of the community that got you here first. This game may be connected to EVE Online but it is not their game!

While attempting to dual-platform between PC and PS4 would be preferable to the playerbase, the PS4 will end up being a major speedbump in the long run. Once the PS5 comes out, development will slow down immensely like it is now.
Dust will also never be on Xbone because, as we've already heard, Micro$oft will only do it if they have complete control over Tranquility and/or Singularity, at which point they'll have CCP by the balls.
