Most of you probably don't know this, but I've made a LOT of these threads in the past, trying to explain the role of every dropsuit frame type. The only problem is that every guide has been missing 1 frame type or another, because I could never figure out how to label every suit's role without having 2 sitting in the same role. But now (hopefully), I have it down. I'll also be throwing in general fitting suggestions.
Scouts and basic light frames
These guys are often misunderstood. They're viewed as light infantry, but actually aren't. So what are they? Scouts actually excel at everything that doesn't involve directly engaging enemy infantry. You may note that they have the best scanning stats, but this is more defensive than offensive- not letting anyone get the jump on you while you do your thing.
Rather, scouts should be more focused on making more blue show up then red on the map. Hacking everything that can be hacked, being the first-responder to a hack (it's still safe to stealth-kill a hacker, if they're alone), and placing uplinks that no other suits can reach, getting rid of enemy uplinks no other suit can reach. Their stealth can also make them preferable for covering an enemy tank with packed REs.
My fitting suggestion is the same for every race: stack myofibs in highs (cal scouts should also throw in a precision enhancer in the extra slot, put a profile dampener and codebreaker on EVERY SCOUT, as well as a kincat and a 2nd of any of those modules, if you have room. Don't be afraid to throw in a CPU upgrade, because scouts take a lot of it. Myofibs are extremely useful to scouts. Not only can you jump to places other suits can't (I like sitting on top of CRUs, because people tend not to look up), but you can also deal decent melee damage without wasting time swapping out your cloak for a weapon. For equipment, take a cloak, and your choice of uplinks, packed REs, or a flux active scanner. Remember to cloak up before every hack. If you take packed REs, you'll need some AV grenades to back them up.
Weapons can vary, but remember that a scout should be able to pump out as much damage as possible as quickly as possible, because they're going to die as soon as they get shot at. My big list: Shotguns, assault rifles, plasma cannons, assault combat rifles, breach mass drivers, scrambler rifles (both assault and normal), sniper rifles, bolt pistols, and nova knives. SMGs are always a safe bet to back any of these up. While you could use nova knives, I personally think they're a little redundant to have with myofibs.
Assaults and basic medium frames Assaults are also usually misunderstood. While considered to be medium infantry, they're actually the light infantry (despite being medium frames). You can say an assault's primary role is to flank.
Use the assault's above-average mobility to loop around the long way, set up uplinks in a safe location behind the enemy, then charge up behind them while they're focused on fighting the heavier suits. Taking the enemy by surprise, they'll be out of places to hide, and will be mowed down quickly in the crossfire.
For shield tankers, I recommend shield extenders and a recharger in high slots, shield and cardiac regulators in low slots.
For armor tankers, I recommend damage mods and a shield energizer in high slots, ferroscale and reactive plates in low slots.
Minmatar assaults, being minmatar, are stuck between shield and armor tanking. I prioritize shields, but essentially combine the 2. Once my extender-recharger-regulator trio is in place, I throw on a damage mod, then a ferroscale or reactive plate in a low slot. My general rule, however, is 1 regulator per shield extender
Assaults can do just about whatever they want for weapons, so I suggest just following your racial bonuses. As I mentioned earlier, assaults should carry uplinks in their equipment slots.
Logis Logis are pretty simple. What they do is give equipment support wherever their team is. Revive, place hives, repair, set up RE traps, and scan down the enemy. Very straight forward.
I recommend tanking logis pretty heavily. Caldari should have nothing in their highs but shield extenders, nothing in their lows but regulators. For the rest of the factions (minmatar logis are armor tanks), stack armor plates and a reactive plate or 2 in lows, with shield energizers in highs.
With weapons, you need something with no major weaknesses. This means assault rifles, breach assault rifles, assault combat rifles, scrambler rifles (again, both normal and assault), rail rifles (both normal and assault), and (if you're short on PG/CPU, SMGs and magsec SMGs
Equipment is completely up to your preference; remember to look at your faction's bonus, however, as a suggestion. I just don't like amarr logis, because frontline uplinks neither survive long, nor are safe to use.
