I played this little gem of a game on the iPad this past year called League of War (I think it may have done the following in this game). Also, I played the iPad version of World of Tanks.
If you leave a match it still counts you as being in a match. With WoT it counted that tank as being in a match, but you could enter a new game with another tank.
Why not have two or three suit slots or something like that and so if you leave a game it still counts that fit as being busy in that match so you have to use one of the other suit slots in order to play. If you back out of the two or three games then all your suits slots are busy and you have to wait.
You are punished, but not in a harsh way and only temporarily so that maybe people would overall stay in some matches.
Maybe add equipment damage too so you have to pay for repairs depending on how long the game went vs. how your team did.
Other mechanics could be added per any ideas. Discuss.
The CPM candidate we need, not the one we want. The candidate for the rest of us.

Easier way would just be to have the player contribute a 'collateral' to cover clone costs.
Want to fight in the match? Fork over 'x' ISK to cover your clone costs. Higher stakes, higher rewards, higher collateral. Albeit, Pub Matches should never have any sort of collateral.
I'm not even entirely for this idea because I feel that the solution isn't to punish players (you will only hurt legitimate players in trying) but to encourage them. Just suggesting the 'collateral' system as an alternative.

If you punish players for leaving battles then your basically punishing them for not wanting to be proto stomps 24/7.

I wonder if this could operate on meta strength. Assume you leave a match, accrue a +15 meta penalty for the duration that match is active. You would be unable to use meta level total 15 suits and below. Further exits would increase this value by 15, leading you to use higher meta level gear (ie. 31 and above) in order to remain in the match.

I agree. Of course many other games have great way of punishing quitters but Dust is a little different.
@Operative 1174 Uuali
If you look at how faction warfare is right now, almost no one leaves the match other than because they somehow accidentally got disconnected or because they got the fatal error message. Everyone goes all in with their best gear despite not being paid ISK for it because there are better incentives. You get paid more LP for winning, you have Eve Online support, q-syncing is easier, you can choose a side to fight for, you have better salvage, and you always seem to start at the beginning of the match.
Pubs don't seem to have those kinds of incentives.

Actually, whenever Negative-Feedback Q-syncs in FW we notice a trend of enemy Q-syncers leaving the match as soon as they see our team. No joke. I'll have to record a video and show you guys how crazy Minmatar FW gets recycled whenever NF Q-syncs for Amarr at night.
In one instance we had three full squads, all from the same corp, straight up drop in the warbarge and get replaced by randoms. Those randoms then dropped mid-match (12 of them) and by the end of the match the bottom 14 players had <150 WP and likely didn't receive any SP rewards on top of losing which gave them no standings gain, no ISK reward, probably very little salvage, and very little LP.
Leaving in FW is a death sentence for anyone who is screwed into replacing you.

That's one hell of a reputation your corp must have, but for an entire opposing corp to drop out like that? Wow~!

Make a bonus for completing a number of battles.
Complete 5 battles you get 200k ISK. Complete 10 battles you get 500k ISK. Complete 20 battles you get 2 mill. ISK.
Rinse and repeat. Or something like that.
If you leave a battle the bonus round starts over. |

Why not just reduce final isk reward then? This would hurt poor players.
