List of Dropauits and weapons to run with them.
CALDARI: Basic assault suit, 3,000 ISK EA. This suit is SHIELD based so run extenders and rechargers as needed. Caldaris are skilled into Rail based weapons (Rail Rifles, Bolt Pistols, Sniper rifles) They're especially handy taking down armored enemies.
AMARR: These are the beasts of armour, I'm serious. They're especially good with Scrambler rifles, and Armor, so drop an armour plate or two down with additional Repairs on your suit (Reactive Plates advised) They're lovely for murdering shield, their weapons exceed in doing so.
MIMITAR: Combat rifles and regular (SMGS?) They're kind of a hybrid between armor and shield, if you run these guys, please to god run a Logi, and use Reps, they're better that way. They prefer taking on armor.
GALLENTE: They have amazing assault rifles (coming from a guy who runs Caldari) and they chew pretty well on enemy armor as well they have a good clip. These guys are the armor badasses aswell, Throw on a bunch of armor, you'll only need your logi buddy to rep you while you practically clear a room.
Serious note, It also depends on play style, being a scout is also beneficial, you don't die a lot as a recon one (caldari) and if you're smart enough you can murder a squad without them even knowing ehat hit em.

The list Anvil gave was very good. Here's my take:
Caldari: Long range skirmishers. Keep your distance, stay close to cover. If you get hit, get out of the line of fire and quickly recharge your shields. If you can keep dipping into cover you will be able to hit far above your own weight as you constantly regenerate. If you don't you will barely be able to make any impact at all.
Amarr: Slow, sturdy, strong. These move slowly but compensate with large amounts of armor. Generally synergize well with damage amplified weapons. The philosophy here is that you slowly walk into the open, catch their strongest punch with your massive armor and then punch back exactly once. If that punch doesn't connect you may be in trouble as you are too slow to escape and don't regenerate fast at all. But who needs regeneration when all enemies are dead?
Minmatar: This is all about movement speed. You may not be able to carry the armor or weapons to dominate all fights, but your speed allows you to pick the fights you want to fight. Make use of that. Find stragglers, dispatch them, continue. At close range speed can also be used to dodge bullets entirely. This does require a lot of practice though.
Gallente: Your one-stop solution for close quarters combat. Sprint into a room and hose down anything hostile with a shower of plasma. You excel at short distances, but you'll be in trouble if you get into a long distance fight. |

I only have 1 thing to add. Do not use armor plates on an assault suit, especially amarr. Just no.
If you want extra armor, use ferroscales. You want to be as mobile as possible in the amarr assault. The closer the enemy gets to you the more dangerous their weapons become. Nothing worse than getting chased down all because you used plates..
I run amarr ak.0 with 2 dmg mods, 2 ferroscales, and 3 armor reps (~600 armor reps 30hp/s). Nothing gets close to me and if I do get into a rough firefight I just need a few seconds of cover before I pop back out with a charged up blast to the dome.

It really depends on what style of play you're good at and enjoy, I'd recommend trying out the MLT versions of the weapons and see what feels best. Remember, militia weapons are crap so don't worry about dropping guys just make sure rounds are getting on target and you like the feel of the weapon.

My favorite aspect of Gallente assaults is their ability to rep. I pair an enhanced armor repairer with reactive plates for no less than 10pts per second, some of my suits repping over 20pts and one that pumps out 42pts.
You often hear players in squad requesting logis to rep them, but you won't hear that from me.

All assaults get melted like butter. Amarr are sturdier than most (as with everything), but assaults are still assaults.
Some details can be ignored
