As of now, our current vehicle progression system, though it's not exactly like the dropsuit system but similar, is all of the same HAV but with more CPU and PG as you progress higher. It would be way better if we had only one version of an HAV and a tech ll version of that tank as well with slightly varying stats. For vehicles, teircide and the introduction of Tech-ll variants is much simpler to bring in the game.
For example, if the madruager was the tech 1 version of a tank, then the Marduk would be the tech 2 version of the madruager. Neither tank having that big of an advantage over the other but both are different in certain ways that make them play certain way in battle.
All you guys have to really do is adjust the vehicles Cost and stats so it CAN fit proto modules, but only if the player feels like it. And get rid of the basic + and basic ++ tanks so the is more space not being cluttered on the fittings screen. The HAV also need a bonus applied to the skill book(literally anything would do, as long as it benefits tanks) and preferably separate the HAV skill tree so caldari and gallente are separate skills.
And similar to how Eve does it, allow the tech 2 version be available on level 3(or 5) progression of the particular HAV and the tech 2 can have its own small bonus after the tech 1 so this way, depending on the bonus, it can have a different play style while still having the other bonus that is first unlocked. (Tech 1 bonus applies to both HAV, but tech 2 bonus only applies to the tech 2 HAV) which is why the tech 2 version better, but weaker than its tech 1 counterpart.
The only real tech 2 variant in this game is the saga 2 which I think is cool and all but we really need more tech 2 variants of vehicles and bonus's to those vehicle to really make things interesting. While a tiered progression system is alright, a tiercide/tech system would be great for vehicles. And there should really be a tech 2 version of the methana and not just the saga.

As much as I enjoy the way skill and ship progression in EVE is set up, much of Dust's monetization is built around the tiered system. I simply don't see them moving away from that, nor do I think they really need to.
