So basically we need a weapon that is very easy to use that will give an edge to new players but won't be valuable to Vets? Or you mean better match making? or perhaps more weapons in general
seriously I can be very slow......

You have it correct. En pointe. CCP does a linear relationship, we need a curve, prefaribly a square root curve or logarithmic curve

The thing with dust is that its more open ended compared to any other shooters out there. For example lets take COD, sure you can change weapons and 'perks' but ultimately you are always at a fixed level where you're not very different from the other player. You die to 2-3 shots or one to the head while dust is different (somewhat). We can customize our characters according to our playstyle to give us an edge over the others. Experienced players will always be better than new players at this and that is where out problem arises. Current match making has fixed this BUT our numbers have dwindled to near nothing already so it was a bit too late.
long story short,we can't use other game's method of balancing on dust. You may have ideas though but I don't so being proven otherwise would make me slightly happier

It's not even another game's method. you see this all the time, In games like Hearthstone, CS:GO, The elder scrolls Series, and other games, too. Yes, it mayy be a bit late, and I think that CCP shoukld quit dust while It's in the black. ( if it is) I'm just posting some things that Hopefully CCP will learn from.

Video sounded like FoTM chasers, Core Locus Grenade users, & Combat Rifle users.
I don't think the reason why DUST isn't growing is because lack of skill weapon. It's more of, they don't know what the hell to do. DUST isn't like any other FPS. You actually have to skill into things and adjust to it's play style and other play style on the fly. Not everything beats x thing (Except FoTM weapons / users).
Once CCP properly implements a Tutorial or PVE mode, like in EVE, the new players will stay a lot more.

Interesting take on this.Does this mean that you think plaayers don't stay long enough to learn?

They may like to be instantly rewarded and praised when they do something in a game. Not in dust though, aside from the steep learning curve, you also have the risk factor which is non-existent in most shooters

2ish years ago in Beta, I didn't take the game seriously because I couldn't figure it out. 2 Years a few months ago I tried to learn the game but couldn't figure it out. 1y maybe 7m ago, I joined Rogue Spades and they helped me figure out what to play.
Rogue Spades helped me spec into the right gear for Amar and what good combinations to use with the ScR. Since that day, I've been playing DUST regularly or shitting in a bucket and playing.
I have a couple people in my corporation that a brand new to the game. All of them except 1 do not log in that much anymore because they couldn't figure out how to play the game.
Noobs will play your game so long as they're having fun and understand a small concept of it to achieve that fun.
I know for sure I wouldn't be playing this game hard everyday if I hadn't have joined Rogue Spades. This game does have a learning curve. There are a couple 'Noob Skill' reward guns. Such as the Mass Driver, Flay Pistol, and Shotgun; however, they have to understand the small concept that not every gun can win in every situation and they must adapt on the fly.

The video has valid points that dust suffers from on top of core programming issues. If you have been playing since beta like I have you would already have picked up on it. I tried so many strategies that on paper and principal should work but in the end me and many of my colleagues agreed we spent more time fighting game code than mercenaries.

In a game that does not even have any rankings that mean anything or an end game to speak of is it really time to speak on these concepts? |

Probably or probably not. It depends on how long players actually stay. Dust really isn't that complicated of a game besides the fitting system. Gun mechanics is basically like all other FPS games ADS, much better accuracy when doing ADS, hitscan, etc. The same with controls. The fitting system and matchmaking is might be the reason, but I doubt no one truly knows the issue and it might not stop the decrease of players.
The game wasn't growing in terms of players for a long time meaning vets, new players, and anyone that plays the game for a bit aren't returning. It could be any number of reasons.

Although the video is close to the mark it misses in several places with dust. We don't have any FOO strategies, and we have an out of date platform that the game is on, Not only that but the promised connectivity with EVE is decidedly lacking, as is a real way to make more isk for better gear without actually committing gear to a fight that cost isk and could very well set the player in a negative isk trend (BPOs and warbarge upgrades notwithstanding, they are normallly not new player items other than the base suit). So to say the video is close to the mark is actually being generous but OK, I get it for games like streetfighter.
