Create an accept offer screen so that all trades must be confirmed
Step 1. Player A initiates transaction with other player
SENDING = Selects {ITEM} or {ISK} in exchange for RECEIVING = Selects {ITEM} or {ISK}
Step 2. Player B chooses {ACCEPT OFFER, DECLINE OFFER, COUNTER OFFER}
Step 3. ACCEPT or COUNTER = deal ends
Step 4 (IF counter) then back to Step 2... cycle until agreed.

Scams are a way of life in New Eden.
I believe CCP's unofficial slogan remains "caveat emptor" (It works on so many levels!)

A more robust trading system is in the works. The current system was just available sooner so they released it when it was ready, but it was never intended to be a final version.
Also to avoid getting scammed, don't fall for scams.

I've done plenty of trades and they have all been completed with no scams. I guess I'm lucky. |

I haven't been scammed either. My last transaction I thought turned out to be a scam because it was taking over an hour to receive my rifles, then I found someone talking about someone in the same company/clan and thought they might all be doing it or it was an alternate nickname. It turned out to be a technical error where he didnt see that I sent his goods, and he made it right immediately after verifying. I think the problem is people think the notification thingy works, but sometimes it doesn't say anything.
I run searches on everyone I'm going to trade with first to see how respectable they are in the Dust514 community since that's about all that CAN be done.

I am glad this is the case. I despise that people were totally fine with the current system because "well, it is New Eden!" That's like seeing a carpenter build an A-Frame of a house and conclude that it is perfect because "people need to understand that weather is a real concern."
I am, however, amazed that a simple trade screen was such a hassle that it couldn't be introduced immediately. I mean, trade screens have been around forever. Everquest had them 16 years ago, just a real simple window. I am sure they have been around even longer than that though. I just don't get how it could have been hard enough or work intensive to not immediately release a trade window.

Well I think the act of scamming is totally a New Eden thing. However having no means to counter scamming on basic item trading is not. I mean this is such a low level scam that any idiot can do it. Scamming should take finesse and wit, not stiffing someone on a basic trade.
So yeah if you get scammed "Welcome to New Eden hurr hurr" but I mean come on, it's hardly something worth patting yourself on the back over if you screw someone with the current system. So is it great that we got basic trading? Absolutely. Is the system perfect as is? Hell no.

Well there we some tech issues with how item location data works, but I wont bother getting into that. My guess is that the old team had some unrealistic plan to make Dust like EVE where you ahd to physically move items around or something, and introducing the kind of trading we have now would break that.
Or they were just bad at their jobs and didnt prioritize important, basic features. Which is more likely.

While I do agree with this, please remember that this will NOT prevent scamming 100%. This will only ensure that smart scammers be able to pull it off. Eve Online has a secure trade system like you ask for but even then scammers find ways around that and even go as far as manipulate the system without really breaking any rules.
