Not talking breach burst or tactical, just the regular assault rifle.
Whenever I run a regular AR on my gallente dropsuits, it only feels right when I'm using it on my commando. Sentinel of course feels strange using an AR on a heavy suit. I don't notice much difference between my scout, assault, or logi suits using an AR, but on a commando, the extra 10% damage and the faster reload speed really make it feel right. Even if I use damage mods on my other suits it doesnt feel as good as on my commando suits (even if I dont use a damage mod on the commando)
Combat rifle feels right on any suit I use, Rail Rifle feels right on any suit I use, but the darn Assault Rifle only feels right on a commando, and I think its the combo of damage and reload speed that do it
This kind of leads me to my assumption that it needs a boost in RoF and an equal boost in clip size (to make the time per clip the same just with more rounds fired), rather than a direct damage boost. Boosting the damage of the AR throws off the damage even more when you take into account damage boosts from weapon mods, warbarge bonus, role bonus from commando, and operation skill.
This is what I think would make the assault rifle feel right in the hands of all of the gallente suits, and yeah sure it would be even more beast mode in a commando, but its a short range weapon and the commando is about as fast as a manatee, I don't think it would become too powerful overall in those hands, but yes it would be better.
Anyone else have thoughts on this? Does the regular AR feel right on any suits to you? which ones? |

I have a proto Gal Assault fit with a maxed AR.
I have a proto Min Assault fit with a maxed ACR.
Both have damage mods.
I like using both.
But for me, the Min/ACR is substantially better at killing all suits quickly.

i use a std AR on my stealth hacking min scout suit. works well with my nova knifes as AR packs a bunch and does not take up much fitting room.

The AR feels right when going up against shield tanked opponents at short range...
...which is to say practically never.
Therefore, the real issue is not the AR or its performance, but the overarching superiority of armor and its prevalence when compared to shields which results in the AR being a solution to a problem that rarely exists.

I'm not fond of the AR line. it gets outperformed by all of the others to the point where I run it to remind myself why I don't run it

I have been using the Duvolle with my Amar assault and it only feels effective when I have at least multiple dmg mods on it
I'm still getting used to the range but I swear if I'm out of optimal whether too close or far it feels a bit mediocre vs the CR
Maybe increase the dmg output to shields a bit? Or increase clip size?

For the strangest reason, the militia assault rifle is probably the most effective weapon I have ever used in the game. Yes pro weapons can shred and tear, but nothing feels better than the militia assault rifle. Why? I don't know. I do know that I hav confronted pro assaults and heavies with it and somehow killed them. And it isn't even a simple kill. When you kill with pro, it feels, I don't know, like, crappy, but the militia Feels so satisfying and smooth and strong.

The only issue is where it confronts armor tanked suits. Which is MOST OF THE DAMN META.
The plasma rifles are fine, but since there aren't enough shield suits in this game because "lol shields", they seem underpowered.
As an aside, even the dual tanked Minmatar armor stack. Except the scouts.

Defo feels right on commando.
On other suits, at ~15-20 meters. Any closer and it doesn't do much, damage application is spotty.
Sniper Rifles are for Nitrogenous Dioxide Borons

I use the ar all the time, especially on a gal scout. AR with nova knives is a pretty good combo. Or AR and Shotty on a Black Eagle Scout. Nothing is wrong with the AR, it is a good weapon.

This damage profile issue was dealt with on the ScR by just buffing it so its -20% against armor was competitive to the absolute detriment of shield suits.
I really hope they don't do this again....
In reality the CQC rifle of the game should be effective against armor more so then the long range ScR due to the AR having to deal with heavies...
My thoughts: Buff the AR so it performs like to ScR and nerf the ScR to preform like the AR. This will protect shield suits since the typically don't run CQC
