Some type deployable equipment that can warn you of incoming threats is not a new idea, even Rattiati (sp?) Has mentioned having some kind of passive detection device

What I'm a proposing is a alt nanohive that shows up on both teams passive and active scans, has good scan precision and decent scan range

You could use this item as a decoy in many situations including making the enemy's active scanners not as reliable
Or as a proximity detector for defending points or areas

What it looks like on your teams tacnet and passive scans is a light blue dot.

What the enemy sees in their tacnet, active and passive scans is a red dot (same as any red dot enemy)

If an enemy is within scan range and able to be scanned, they are notified that they are scanned and they are shown on scans as they would with the active scanner.
There is no scan duration, as long as they remain in the scanning range they will show up on the opposition's tacnet and they will continue to see the "you have been scanned" notification. Once they are out of the scanners range, the scan notification goes away and they do not show up on tacnet/passive scans

The strength of the scan precision becomes greater the closer the enemy is to the unit. So if the enemy is within the scan radius but has good dampening, they run the risk of being scanned the closer they get to the unit.
(They would also see "scan attempt prevented" continuously if they are under the scan)

Each unit will have a set number of scans (like ammo), the unit will pop once all scans are used. (Yes one enemy could walk in and out of its range to disable it as an alternative to just shooting it)

So here are some very rough numbers for the different meta levels. I'll leave cpu/pg for the gods to decide

 Basic

 Max active - 1
 Max carried - 3
Max scans per unit - 4
 Scan precision - 30db
 Scan range - 27m
 Bandwidth - 2

 Advanced

 Max active - 1
 Max carried - 4
Max scans per unit - 7
 Scan precision - 27db
 Scan range - 35m
 Bandwidth - 2

 Proto

 Max active - 2
 Max carried - 6
Max scans per unit - 8
 Scan precision - 24db
 Scan range - 45m
 Bandwidth - 2

If this idea is well received there are ideas for variants but in the meantime I hope the rest of this scotch makes me flameproof
