How about a 'Command' skill tree, unlocking equipment that applies bonuses to squadmates when in the leader position.
i.e. The skills themselves do not enhance the team, but you can fit modules that apply 'X' to shields/armour/ewar/speed, sacrificing some of your fit to enhance the squad overall.
Gives vets something to put excess SP into, and creates a niche for skilled squad leaders.

Something reminiscent of the leadership skill tree in EVE would be boss even without link mods.
I would actually skill into that solidly.
There's never enough sh**posting going on, so let's add a few more teaspoons of the guy posting after me to the recipie!

This is a really cool idea, although i think that the skills should only apply in PC matches. Maybe FW too. But not pubs. Pub stomps are already frustrating enough. I dont think we need the vets to stomp through the newbros even harder than they already do.
I don't like two-legged things.

Make them squad only. Make them apply to the person who has them.
It's very simple. You invite people into squads. Every now and again how the hell can you find real talent if you don't actively headhunt?
Also lets you invite people to apply to corp for a performance you see rather than inviting some stat-padding douchecanoe because he has a good k/d rating.
Further, in Eve you can have cascading boosts. A fleet can have a booster, a wing can have a booster and a squadron can have a booster. Allow a person with leadership opt to take Force Commander in pubs to provide bonuses. Since identical boosts do not stack, there's a high likelihood that it won't get too out of hand.
