Dust 514 isn't advertised anywhere. The only way to find out about it is either searching for F2P games on the PSN or by word of mouth. Since the big dip in player population post-fanfest 2014 I doubt we are seeing new players coming into the game from referrals*. I stopped referring new people to play Dust shortly after bigger AAA titles started hitting the market; between Elite: Dangerous, Planetside 2, Star Citizen, and GTA V (PC) my friends aren't interested in an old PS3 F2P FPS.
Some players come back for major updates, but then they vanish again after the honeymoon period wears off.
Our population seems to be stagnating.
So that leads me to wonder... why are we all still here at all? Why throw Rattati's team at updates and hotfixes when the ROI is probably quite low. I hate to use this cliche, but is Dust 514 on "life support"?
I'm going to add my voice to the sea of voices: What are you going to do with us, CCP?
*: REAL new players. Not you sending your SO an invite so you can play their account and get the recruiter BPOs...

This is just a guess but I bet the answer has to do with mostly money.

...because the game is still broken and not finished?
Why advertise the game right now when Rattati is doing an amazing job of trying to get this game into a finished state?
Logistics progression is still terrible Vehicle roles are still to be seen Planetary Conquest is still a work in progress.
They tried to throw a few walls up, put a roof on, and advertised the game originally as a fancy looking house, when in reality the interior was barely even functional, most of it missing, broken, or marked with a big "SOONtm" sign
Some of us stayed and saw the potential, most looked around and thought it was a joke.
Right now the house is in pieces with a few finished rooms and still has building materials and tools laying everywhere.
Who in their right mind would put a house up for sale in that condition when we saw what happened the last time?

I really enjoy playing DUST, the skill progression and the game play.
But it is too little too late to ever have a decently sized player count and a product to be advertised. That ship has sailed.
Too much bad press, bad word of mouth, broken promises, and mismanagement.
I appreciate what CCP and Rattati have done to keep DUST alive, though I'm not a Rattati disciple like so many others are.
The life span of the PS3 is in it's twilight, and nothing at this point will ever make DUST more than what it is right now.
Further development will only serve to retain the few money spenders and diehards we have left and CCP knows this.
The reason they continue to service us is because, I believe, they are not in great financial shape, and if this product makes them any money, they will wring it dry to the last drop, because they need the money.
All hope lies in the IP itself, that if CCP can stay in business, or a buyer down the road sees the value in it, that the IP might see new life on other technology.

Just FYI, a good chunk of the Shanghai studio was turned to working on Valkyrie (while, I might add, getting some UE4 experience). Dust being profitable only helps our case for the future and gives upper management another positive reason to allocate more funds and resources to our cause, once they become available. I believe that the next FanFest will go something like this: Where We've Been Where We Are Where We're Going (that's going to be PC, sorry ps4 folks. You come later)
Unfortunately, due to no fault of our own, Dust initially started as a grand idea but crashed and burned under shtty management and development. It was and is a smart business decision to reallocate resources to another game (Valkyrie) that is already been playtested by numerous people and looks amazing.... And it's not even in Alpha.
Our time will come. We're next in line. Be patient just a little more.

Where is it going? Rattati has mentioned that he has always wanted to see Dust in a completed state. I'm sure a lot of us do.
Until this game is balanced properly, working perfectly and fully completed, there will not be another release.
I know for sure that I don't want to see Legion until they can make everything fit together the way it should be. Trying to put such an unfinished product onto the PS4 or PC at this point would only make things worse and everyone would **** on the IP again.
The last thing we want to do is put out a terrible game to the market that everyone will take one look at and move on

Why are we still here?
Because a point of a game is to have fun... Why do I still play Dig-Dug? Because its still fun.
I hate you meddling doomsayers that don't outright say "FCK the game" while writing. Trying to pull players away won't work on the forums...

DUST never really ever left Beta. If I put on my tinfoil hat, we're basically lab-rats doing small-scale testing to figure out how this IP should work. The goal right now isn't to produce large profits, it's to find out what business model to use that will get a solid revenue per player return. It's also to improve the NPE to the point where the retention percent is in-line with the industry. If we can hit both a reasonable revenue per player and have decent player retention, then making the business case to dump millions more into the game for an x86 port and a big marketing push is a no-brainer because these numbers would scale in size and CCP could see a serious payday on the back side of it.
The fact that DUST is profitable is really not very relevant, except that it indicates there must be decent revenue per player since the player base is pretty small. Making a modest profit now isn't really very exciting to a business the size of CCP, but having a product that players are willing to spend a lot of money on does mean a lot.
Best PvE idea ever!

Onward and upward? We still have the next hotfix and Warlords 1.2 to think of. At that point we have reached the end of the known line. The community roadmap trello board hasn't been updated so who knows.

If the tone came across as "doomsaying" then it was only by virtue of the facts being pretty grim. Dust 514 is not thriving. Is it doing better under Rattati's care? Yes! Absolutely so. Will it make oodles of money and win CCP tons of award for innovation? **** no.

Dust has just been a fundraiser for the longest time now, and I have no problem with that.
Dust doesn't really need advertising because the playstation store does it for them. Ever since it entered open beta, it's been the PSN's free-to-play mascot, as well as easily the best free download on the PSN. It's also a waste of money to advertise for a game on a dying console.
Some details can be ignored
