There are cheaper packages. Honestly right at this moment I wouldn't recommend getting one until they finish working on some things with Arena Commander and the Star Marine module. Once you get a cheap package you can earn in game rental credits to rent more powerful ships and equipment without paying any more money.
It's still worth checking out the progress they're making. They are very thurough about keeping the playerbase informed unlike some other devs.

Lets be fair though. Orders come from higher up with CCP games. So lets not blame the current team. I bet they want to be free to speak about the status of PL but just can't. It is what it is. In the meantime support Dust514. Encourage more features with new systems. Play Valkyrie when it comes out. Play some Eve. Play some Dust514. And most of all give positive feedback or they will ignore rants.
And then contact the upper management of CCP games on social media but in a mature manner. CCP games will listen to feedback but not rants. Upper management at CCP games can sometimes get out of touch and make poor decisions. We all know this and so do they. Should there be better communication, absolutely.
Well...back to Titanfall and Eve on my PC. Followed by a lovely day of swimming.
