As most people know player trade at this time is a trust based system. Currently I give you isk or "x" item , you return isk or "x" item. This is simple but without confirmation tabs leaves people open to become subjects to "scammers."
I want to lead off with saying the vast many of people I have traded with during this short period of player have been HONEST, PROMPT , TIMELY and best of all FAIR FAIR FAIR. I probably have made 20 trades and all of them include High dollar amounts. of the twenty I was scammed by one guy. I am not here to blast this one guy so I will not mention his name is this post( however , he is mentioned in another post I have made :-) )
How to protect yourself with this trade system:
1.) If someone messages you randomly and your not sure where they got your name: thats probabaly a scammer
2.) if you get a message for an offer of something your looking for and its TOO GOOD to be true, its probably not true : thats probably a scammer
3.) Its best to be in a chat channel when trading : I suggest "player trade " and " The black market"
4.) Squad up before making exchanges: Squad chat limits the amount of texting seen between you and the other party member. A direct line of communication so that no misunderstandings happen. Mic up while in squad chat, nothing beats voice to voice .
5.) lastly , if you do get an offer thats TOO GOOD to be true but you want to entertain the idea, if you can not get the other party memeber in a squad: thats a scammer

Here's my system: DON'T make expensive single item purchases (excess of 400K) until there's a better trade system.
If you're getting multiple items, pay for each item individually: I give you ISK for 1 item, you send me it. I give you ISK for the next item, you send me it, and etc.
Same goes for trading an item for an item. I send 1, you send 1, I send 1, you send 1, etc.
Some details can be ignored

I have built myself up as a trustworthy person, despite being a giant troll on the forums. I have always been generous with my monitory ventures, sometimes that bites me in the ass. I will admit, I have had my good nature taken advantage of and yes, I have been scammed. I cannot stress enough that you should check every aspect of your trade, make sure it is moderated, and don't trade with ransoms.
I'm definitely going to make a trading alt, VAHZZ is just the pretty face

If in a trade channel send mail messages when you see a deal you like. Easier than forming a squad.
And I agree with no massive single transaction, but 400k limit? I've been selling single weapons for more than that. Highest single transaction I've done at one time in 10.5M and everything worked out ok. Keep in mind that scammers want big money, and they know the only way to do that is pay the long game and build up trust, and that after their first scam they risk ruining their name. No one is going to sell their name for a handful of ISK or weapons. Now when BPO/Apex/Skin trading comes, some less ambitious scammers may find value in selling their name for one of those, do be cautious.

Don't voice up, do the whole transaction through text (through mail like Aero said) so if the person you're trading with screws you over you have proof to tarnish his or her name.
Also check PSN ID's.
I got a lot of stuff you want and could just have if it weren't for the trade tax.

I agree, I would never rely heavily on voice as you need paper as a trail. Voice is a great adjuvant for trading. |

I'm too kind of a guy to steal from you... if you ever see Shamarskii Simon, you're in good hands.
and do: if one person wtb something, buy it from someone elsewhere for cheaper and sell to the first person for more expensive.. i made 10 mil isk off buy/trade n sell in 30 min! only when you find someone you trust though.
