As the Biomassed crew wraps up the first full year of the show, weGÇÖre joined by special guest CCP Rattati who answers a multitude of questions and talks about the upcoming features in Warlords 1.1. Community members Aiwha Bait, Cat Merc, Jadek Menaheim, and Luther Mandrix bring their questions forward. We had some technical difficulties this week, so a special thanks to the Podside crew for coming online and getting us running this week!

First time listening, in the process of it now. Rattati talking EVE, played once back in like 2006 never stuck. Tried again when I found out about dust (man how I LOVED this game and it's idea), hoping to strengthen my char on the ground with my one up in space.

That didn't pan out but EVE stuck more than it did previously. Though I quit when I lost a billion in isk, high sec mining. I'll just stick with boots on the ground. Safer down here.

Player retention SHOULD def be a priority, as those new bros are the lifeblood of the game. A big part of that was matchmaking. Even with skills myself into weapons I use, the TTK in my STD suit to a Proto suit is LONG. When for the proto suit, a few well placed shots will drop that. So keeping players of the same skill level (SP level) is a MUST.

NOBODY wants to play a shooter at such a disadvantage to another player. I like (but don't play much anymore) fast paced shooters like COD and Destiny because going in I know I won't be at a disadvantage. So paring STD suits to STD suits and so forth is a good start.

At higher tiers though things morph, as payouts never scale upwards. So eventually, a proto player like myself has to drop down to free/cheap suits quite frequently. Thing is, I don't mind playing lower tier suits. What I do mind is being at a constant disadvantage to proto suits. The best times I have playing cheap/free suits is when the others I'm facing are doing the same. Those are FUN games. It's not fun though getting 3 shot by basically everything.

Matchmaking works well, so next step is to try matching tiers of gear against similar tiers of gear for better all around game play. This of course sometime down the road.

Another thing that will help with player retention, reducing the complexity. When I say this I mean make skill paths easier to understand and visible. If you are going for an assault, then you need to know:

What weapon is specific to the race of suit you pick
 Primary defense, shields or armor
 Role on the battlefield
Equipment specific to class, Cal = Hives, Gal = scans, ect.
Supplemental skills, like damage mods and grenades for assaults
For a logi, your primary weapon isn't so much an issue, so that wouldn't be a priority. For a logi they would focus on their equipment and defenses first.

But these things need to be a explained and shown with better clarity. There are a TON of skills, and it's quite easy to get off the path.

Maybe something like an extra menu, that displays your various suit types, commando, assault logi, ect. Then break it down to racial suits. Then from there, say we look at racial assault gallente, assault rifle, armor skills, ect are all priority skills. Give checks as you unlock each and separate them by tier.

You start at basic, unlocking your rifle, level one in armor skills, grenades and damage mods. And as you progress, you unlock more and more, eventually getting shield skills and other lower priority skills that aren't directly tied to your racial parity.

I might make something up later visually and post it to the rookie forums. Basically like the ISIS in EVE though with a dust 514 twist to it.

After matchmaking, this is one of the biggest hindrance to player retention. Understanding how to spend that SP to even begin to think about being competitive.

THIS is big. ISIS on Dust would help TREMENDOUSLY the newbros.
