It had come to my attention from other posts that Dust 514 is in need of advertising and marketing. This is no surprise. I haven't seen a CCP made trailer in years. The problem with them was also the hype they created over unrealistic promises. And now that most of the Dev team has been let go, there are no extra bodies around to be dedicated movie / trailer creators. So what could be done? Well, just like the title suggests, have the players do it. There are many players here who already make fairly cool movies such as Aeon and Sgt Kirk. But how do we inspire players to get up and make these videos? Well CCP Rattati already does player events that help the Devs gather data for rebalancing, so why not hold a player event that helps the Devs market their game to bring in new players, which could potentially increase revenue, which means more resources to make the game better? They could have goals like "Send us your best video of your tank vs tank action." Or any scenario really, like best sniper montage, best Nova Knife montage, etc. and for every video you send in that meets their criteria, you get a prize, like 100,000 ISK or something. With this, you have REAL videos of CURRENT mechanics that hypes up new customers that AREN'T just filled with hopeful, unrealistic promises that hyped up the current player base that sticks around hoping that those dreams will become reality someday. With these video clips, CCP can doctor up a pretty insane marketing trailer that is as good as the "This is Eve" trailer from this years FanFest which used REAL voice overs and video from REAL players. I would appreciate feedback from the players, CPM, and if possible the Dev team with any ideas that could make this a successful reality.
As a side note, if there was a "Video Montage" event, it could be the prequel to a Dev run program that takes in videos for ISK payment, which wouldn't require an event every time the Devs want new clips. |

If we had corp battles back or Free battles that you could set up as well as have a spectator mode and free cameras id go to town with making videos.
I was just thinking about a Lucent Echelon mini show showing what's it like when we aren't fighting Caldari back at our base.
As long as 5/6 (83%) of infantry AV weapons are Anti Armor based you're never going to achieve vehicle balance CCP

Stop offering to do CCP's work for them.
They abandoned you and your game by stripping it of its development resources.
You owe them nothing.
Usually banned for being too awesome.

We do work for them anyway. We mine all their data for them as it is. They don't have the team to prosper like they should. Plus people already make a lot of videos as it is. It makes sense CCP can use this work in making the game more profitable just like they use the data we mine for them to make the game better. That is the main point I am trying to make.

Things like volunteer advertising is likely a legal department liability issue. What happens if someone's video gets picked and used, and he starts asking "where's my paycheck?" With lawyers.
Youtube videos and word of mouth are good, but things might get sticky if CCP endorses or solicits player community members as a "substitute advertising department."
Take the above not as "why we shouldn't make vids to attract people to the game."
Take it more as "CCP probably needs yo keep some distance unless agreements are signed with a web author."
I like the idea. But rather like any business endeavor I have ever researched: "There's a lot more to consider than what's on the surface."

I like the idea. But rather like any business endeavor I have ever researched: "There's a lot more to consider than what's on the surface." I was thinking about this. I thought maybe CCP could do something like a EULA oriented contract. Everyone who is playing this game to this date has had to accept the EULA to play Dust 514, and if they break it, they are banned and they can't be sued because '"you agreed to it, now pay the price." So if they had something like that, saying "By clicking 'ok' (or however they decide to make you accept the agreement) you agree that we have every right to use and edit this video to our liking and that we agree to deposit 100,000 ISK (or whatever prize they decide to give out for this if they made it into an event, and if they even decided to do a prize for video submissions) into you main characters account within "X" amount of time." This could alleviate some of that legal stress. Do you or anyone else have any ideas regarding this?
