Yeah. So what about all these people who said that Titanfall will kill Dust? Now for some reasons Titanfall has less players than Dust 514 (which is down to about 2500 though: http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust )
Seems like there is still more to a game than just hit detection, lags and fps. Because apparently no matter how ****** Dust is in regards of these points it got a thing right Titanfall blatently ignored: longevity. A part so many people always forget and which was absolutely non existent in Titanfall, where you could reach max level in a matter of 6 hours or so and where all the Prestige Stuff was worth nothing.
So well... I just wanted to say: I told ya so!

Aikuchi, games like Titanfall and Destiny don't kill Dust 514 outright.
When a player purchases one of the above games they are opting to spend their money on that game instead of Dust 514. Imagine how many dollars went toward Titanfall that could have bought aurum.
To compound this, we have the perception of failure working against Dust. When a group of players takes a few months off to play Destiny they are not only withholding aurum from CCP, the community is also down one less player in public contracts. One less person to fight for districts in PC. One less person to earn a victory for the Gallente or Caldari or whatever. A dwindling playerbase tends to create stress on the community.

"Everyone is a vet. Where are the middle-tier players?"
"Everyone is running proto 24/7."
"Wait times in FW are too long."
Sound familiar? It should, because those are all complaints I have heard players talk about in-game and on the forums. This dissatisfaction breeds more negativity and that can keep all but the most stubborn / masochistic players from playing Dust long term.
Every FPS that gets released that attracts even a small percent of the Dust 514 playerbase is hurting the game. Since Dust is a F2P game, it is hard as hell to kill it though. As a result, Dust lives in this perpetual state of bleeding to death, but never allowed to truly die.

Seriously.
EVERY shooter that has come out since this game hit Open Beta was touted as the Dust Killer, same as every MMO for a decade at least has been touted as the EVE Killer.
It just comes with the territory, man. You find posts like that in the forums for pretty much any game.

Titanfall rocks the core fps mechanics, Dust is baffled by the need for core fps mechanics.
Dust rocks meaningful player engagement(but still only a fraction of what New Eden has to offer), Titanfall is helpless to inject any meaning at all into the matchplay.
It's still true that Dust could be a big player in the fps world, but only if CCP can see the argument for solid fps fundamentals and invests in what they need to execute on it. Once we have that we can iterate Dust into the social platform it needs to be to meaningfully add to New Eden.

Titanfall was fun, and it does have a lot of mechanics that make it play very nicely. Vehicle balance is really well done in particular. But without any real persistent effects it doesn't have the sort of staying power that DUST has. MMO elements are what make this game have the long-lasting staying power it has.

I believe the existence of "titanfall 2" took titanfall out of the running.
They decided to go the CoD route of remaking the exact same game, instead of building on what they have.

I play Destiny. Sure it's grindy and repetitive, but I play it with the leaders of my Dust corp, who are now my friends, and some other folks I know and have met there. Some of those are ex-Dusties as well. We play it because it's fun to play together in a common cause.
I've spent more than a few bucks on Dust; Destiny has only cost me the price of one game plus dlc for a similar level of enjoyment.
I don't think in terms of one game "killing" another. I simply choose to play a game that is fun with friends. |

As far as longetivity, no, those companies don't care about it at all. They puke up game after game because they sell like hotcakes. Companies that puke up another game every 12 months or so don't care about longetivity.
