Sister thread to this beautiful thread.
Back In closed beta, we had a list of ongoing matches where you could see all the games, number of players in said games. For some unfound reason, it was removed, most likely by the old guards inability. CCP Rat Man is better than the old guard, he is a shining beacon of hope for change in this game. We need this beauty right here back, it will make matchmaking easier, it will make loading FW 10x better. We need this back, I hope you all see that.
I decided to make this thread, even though Dark Cloud already made one, because this needs more voice. This needs to be seen and heard more, and hopefully Rat Man and his team will implement this back into our game.
If you expect the worst, you'll never be disappointed.

I wouldn't mind if upcoming defence battles were listed with a countdown timer (ex 5min before start), which players can fill up as they see fit. The battle will start regardless if it's 16vs16, and players can jump in until the match is over (if there is available slots). If nobody is interested in defence, the faction does not deserve to keep the district.
The opposition type (Battleforce = 16, Platton = 8) should be stated.
In addition I would like to see players with high enough faction loyalty (level 10?) to be able to initiate battles via the star map, on a specific district. Large districts (5 nodes) require a Battleforce, smaller (3 nodes) require only a Platoon and will be 8vs8. You can only initiate battles on adjacent claimed (already occupied) districts on the planet. If no districts on the planet is owned by the faction, at least 50% of the districts in a adjacent system needs to be claimed before initiating an attack.
When selecting a district to attack, it states the minimum constellation required.
This way we accomplish several things:
1) Border wars
2) Distance matters.
3) Dominance by numbers

I agree with this but of you look at the rat man big board you will see apparently we get into battles to quickly compaired to games like cod or bf
