NOTE: You can skip the first paragraph, it's just an "intro"
When I first played Dust, I was totally lost. And once I left the academy, which I didn't even know existed, I was getting wrecked by Proto-Stomped dudes with their fancy BPOs. I didn't know why, but I restarted with a new character twice or more because I felt like it was easier in the academy, and I was right. I continued playing, getting wrecked and wasting my SP on things I didn't even understand. I thought quiting so many times. And then... I kept playing. Because I wanted to achieve something and kill those fancy dudes who killed me first. And eventually, I started learning more about the game. And it all changed when I discovred the forums. And mostly because of this guy, named XxBlazikenxX (thank you very much dude) and his Minmatar Guide. (I chose Minmatars because they looked fancier and coller than others ). If I hadn't discovered the forums, I would still be that lame dude getting wrecked by other fancy dudes.
So, here is why I think that game requires a Learning mode.
First, no matter what you learn, where you learn it and from who you learn, you MUST practice. And to practice, you should first start in a calm simulation.
But in Dust, they literally give you a weapon which you don't even know how to use (that may be exagerated) and drop you on a battlefield with TONS of people trying to kill you, and they want you to survive. But let's say I go on the forums, and someone tells me in CQC against scouts, I should use a SMG.
If I wanted to pactice, they would send me a slow AI scout, with not that much HP and a kinda weak weapon. And the practice scout would become stronger, until I reach a certain point where I can easily dominate scouts. But in Dust, the scout won't be slow. He will have Ceodron Shotgun or Ishukone Nova Knives. And a Cloak Field. How the hell am I supposed to practice against that?! I CAN'T!
It would be like if a US recruit was sent against another country soldier, who is a vet. They didn't teach anything to the US dude, he must learn by himself.
But at least in Dust, we got the forums. And we got D-UNI.
But the thing is, it's great to read, to learn, and make theories, but they won't be worth anything unless you practice. And you CAN'T prsctice against proto stomped dudes.
I know the Tutorial/Learning mode will be totally useless for vets, but seriously CCP, if you want to keep your players, give them something they can handle and teach them how to play.
