Hi guys & gals,
In the continued effort to find ways to bring EVE lore into DUST I have been posting some ramblings in our private D-Uni section of the forum. From all the wall of text produced (from specific implementations to the broad theory around them) only one suggestion seems to have triggered a response (thanks Maken Tosch):
-Place EVE side New Eden news on our Dust Mercs quarters (with sound toggle option preferably)
If at all possible to implement the feature, "The Scope" comes to mind as a good news feed but other short videos and trailers could be used.
This is not a game mechanic integration feature but it would give some lore context to why we do what we do and improve immersion.
Hope you can take the time to say what you think of the idea.
See you around... boots on the ground!

TL:DR: "The Scope" news feed in Mercs quarters, please!

Our "null battles" (Planetary Conquest) arent as exicting as people fighting over space.

this is so true...
Now if we had an indoors map that could pass for a station (POS, POCO or anything else) and a gateway mechanic that allowed EVE pilots to post SPECIAL CONTRACTS in our Dust NEOCOM... now THAT would be cool news for "The Scope"!!!
They would gain access to these structures (or be able to defend them) partway through reinforcement and avoid the structure bashing that dominates EVEs SOV mechanics.
But that idea is one of those that belong to the wall of text I referred before... and has very little probability to see the light of New Eden any time soon.

Anyone who actually saw them in Dust wouldn't really understand them unless they were a cap or knew what was going on as a Cap. They wouldn't make us understand "Why we do what we do" at all, well, unless you decide to go back and read all of the old lore, or find on your own why you do what you do, which is pretty much what Caps do; find their own path.
It would be nice if there was some good ways to display lore ingame, and the devs if switching over to newer and better **** (aka X86 ****), then maybe, just maybe we could see a upgrade in that department as well due to the added juice we got, if they plan on doing that in the first place. Would be nice if they could do the same for EVE in more of a chill social aspect (incarna features pwease?)........

I get your point of view Godin.
But let me ask you this... how do you choose your weapon in a fitting? The feel, the looks, the stats..??? Of course you look at the stats... close range, long range, bla bla bla... oh wait! Are the numbers in the game? No? But you, like most of us Dusties (Hell! We "live" in New Eden!), will look for what interests us, what motivates us. Those that like a little extra context, will look for it. Simple. But we really need more cues!!! So you are right, but, if we already have a screen in our quarters dedicated to broadcast news (and maybe CCP has an easy way to patch 'The Scope' into it) then HELL YEA!!! I want it!

If they can manage to get the storefront 'aurum deals' up there, they can put other stuff there. At least a MOTD. |

I'm all for this.
The only issue is that Faction Warfare is the only aspect of Dust that really matters in EVE, and Faction Warfare in EVE is virtually ignored by a fair portion of the playerbase and even CCP it seems.
I mean, I hope they turn their sights on Faction Warfare after the Sov changes this summer, but history has shown that FW is something they'll leave to wither and die before even thinking about trying to improve it.

Good point Mobius.
Listening on the Hidrostatic podcast I get the impression that lore (and indirectly FW) has gained momentum these last few months. But you are absolutely right: FW should NOT be the link between EVE and DUST.
The link between EVE and Dust should ultimately be economic and the mechanic integral to SOV.
SOV drives the highest meta gameplay in New Eden and is the end game in EVE online. It has it's parallel in Dust (PC) but although EVE players already can substantially help DUSTs end game the opposite isn't a reality yet. I trully believe CCP is on this path and the Roadmap (as it is right now) prepares us for this future vision.
However the harsh truth is that unless EVE players see the use of DUST in their SOV mechanics as a major improvement over their structure bashing we will not have the leverage to convince CCP to invest in this.
"The Scope" in quarters hopefully sparks the will for some of us to reach out to EVE and lobby our vision of being real players in their SOV mechanics.

You remind me of how ambitious I was before we learned about CCP Jian's incompetence and CCP Rouge's plan to trade us in for PC gamers.
I mean, I would love a world where we actually have all those wonderful things I loved in EVE Universe (the new art book), what with the drawings of the orbital elevators in space and the ground stations that can be seen on planets. When the idea was that Dust and EVE players could play their own games but both would benefit from cooperating together.
Right now all we have is a multiplier on Faction Warfare that can prevent EVE players from getting anything done through no fault of their own, and in some cases just makes them resent Dust rather than want to cooperate with us to capture systems.
I want to see that change, but I'm not sure if CCP thinks it's worth it. As much as Rattati has done, he's still subject to the whims of higher management, and if they decide they don't want to give him more resources, than we'll still be stuck with what we have right now.
