There aren't enough people in this game for good matchmaking.
Now, in my case, as a player with a 1.25 KD and pretty much average stats across the board, virtually all of my Public Contract matches are quite fun and balanced.
In the case of high-tier veterans, though, it can be almost impossible to get good fights. Sgt Kirk was just talking last night about how he exclusively runs FW now because Pubs result in one side getting redlined or the match not even filling up with players.
There needs to be some amount of focus on trying to entice some more of the veterans back or the matchmaker won't be able to do anything to make good matches at the higher tiers.

I would love to disagree with you, but I just can't.
Although I think the new matchmaking in Pubs works wonders with what we got though. |

The point of the matchmaker is to fix the real problem.....if player retention was bad due to stomping the matchmaker is now addressing that very issue.

I've noticed that people tend to stay stuck in their ways, which is the root of the problem. So many have been used to playing one way that is their style won't work they leave. I've been red lines before and guess what? I switch to a scout suit and novas. or snipe the living s*** out of those Proto stompers. You may think twice about getting too close to the red line if you lose your shiny Quafe suit.

Ahh, but with new MM, new players are no longer going from Academy to Proto Stomps!
That means new opportunities for growth, and retaining new players!
Dust numbers have been a problem for awhile now, and anything that keeps more new players, the better. That is why MM IS necessary, its not a knock against it.

Faction warfare is one of the few game-modes that you can still cheat at. That is what you meant by 'good matches' right? Ones where you relentlessly crush the opposition while soaking minimal losses of your own?
Now we just need to get people to stop ******* with new players in battle academy.

I kind of agree, it's not going to fix the problem for the higher tier vets and vets the game thinks are higher tier for quite a while. But as others have pointed out, new players won't get stomped as badly which means they're more likely to stay which means eventually they'll be higher tier vets.

I think at this point the real problem is just people backing out of battle. If a squad is weighted to be the cornerstone of a team and a member gets Scotty causing them to back out that whole match is screwed.
I think that giving a left behind squad member or squad member that has DC'd the ability to rejoin the battle if a spot is still open will do wonders for the overall system.
Once something is done about that we can see how rampant the problem of stat padders leaving battle really is and react accordingly.

^ yep yeppity yep, we know old players are leaving and/or that their taking long breaks away from Dust ( hell half of us have to read their farewell messages on the forums, lol). It's vital to retain new players imo, at least a few

Another cool idea would be if someone accepts a squad invite from a squad in a match, it puts them into the match instead of not letting them join the squad at all.

At least letting them join the squad while the squad is in battle would be a start. It gets annoying going back and forth with people going AFK waiting to join the squad.

I'm sorry but what was the problem? Matches don't fill and it's constantly 12v4 or 3v10. I was talking to my friends and asked how they can put up with this "I'm about done honestly" the last of your mordu's vets are getting pushed away.. And I mean why not battlefield has 32v32 and if someone backs out they actually get replaced and now battlefront coming out in 6-7 months. Or stay here where it's constantly 5v13 or 6v16... Not like the lower tier players would understand, there matches actually get filled .. I prefer the 32v32 honestly. |

I'm not sure about the requirements for this higher tier, but I have seen (over the past week) people who definitely DO NOT cut it in the higher tier and need to be demoted! I know these people didn't just wander into a higher tier match with a squad of vets either because they are all soloists. Scores of 1-15, 3-18 (etc) with WPs lower than 500, proves they can't cut it, and so I have to wonder wtf they are doing in the higher tier. Whatever formula CCP are using to determine actual player skill seems to be flawed.

+1
It's a no brainer and should've been implemented on day one. If there is space in a battle you should be able to accept a squad invite from a squad in that battle.

What the formula does not account for is "higher level players" not giving two ***** about winning or losing. This is because there is no incentive to win unless you are one of the people who is obsessed with stats to give them something to do.
Can you give me any good reason why a high level player would car to run anything other than an APEX suit in most cases?
Unless I am up against people I know personally that we are going to fight it out hard I do not and will not spawn in anything other than my uplink suit or 1 of 5 Imperial BPOs. I really do not care about k/d or w/l and the actual ISK profit is going to be far higher for me going 7/10 versus going 12/3. Before you say, "oh you should not die in proto" just remember this one word, EXPLOSIVES.
If we had higher chances of salvaging warbarge components and officer gear or there was a true disparity in ISK between winning and losing that offset costs you would see a FAR different environment.
