At least for dropships. I don't know if it would be a good idea for tanks/LAVs though. It probably need a slight range buff to air vehicles only though, maybe 25 meters. I don't know, I'm far too hung over today.
Or at least maybe make a new SL varient that required hold lock but has a slightly longer range and have the normal SL but reduce its range.
Edit:I just want to add that I'm not a vehicle user.

This should have been a thing from the get-go. L1 to lock on, R1 to fire. 1.5 seconds between swarms. If you lose the lock, the missiles either explode immediately, or more preferably, continue in a straight line until they run out of steam.

Question for you, if the swarms had an increased turning radius (ie, turned more slowly) would that help you as a pilot in evading volleys more readily?

We add a buffed lock hold version so we can Nerf the current SL.
Eventually, after tweaks to both versions, I would hope they we can achieve a true side grade and have both versions be viable.

I have said this before, and granted it is anecdotal, but I think the increased turning radius helps swarms get past evasion, at least when DS are around objects.
I would almost think the opposite would help more from my perspective, as putting cover between the DS and the AVer while swarms are mid flight would guarantee the missiles hitting the obstacle.
Perhaps you could even reduce the speed slightly to make up for the decreased travel time, since missiles are travelling in a straighter line.

Sure, I'd be up for that. The flight velocity of the missiles would need to be increased though; not a fan of staring down a tank waiting for payload to hit.

Even better would be follows while reticle is on vehicle, continues in the same direction when the reticle is off the vehicle. It can, however, travel through hills and show the marker of the tank/LAV.
But give it a range buff too.

i like how the playable areas from redline to redline is under 400 m on the majority of maps, and this sill isnt enough.

1. Make swarms guided so that they can be steered around minor obstacles. Basically if the swarm is not locked on to a target it chases the cross hair.
2. Increase missile speed just a bit.
3. Increase per missile damage a little.
4. Give vehicles a warning sound when missiles are in the air that intensifies based on how close the missiles are.
5. Make missiles have zero splash radius. This way you can not steer them into the ground in a group of infantry and wipe them all out. Direct hitting someone with a swarm missile should deal full damage as that would just be awesome. This should also have a special rag doll that includes a minimum of 2 limbs going flying in opposite directions.

For how lock mechanics work currently, no. Because if my theory is correct (a thread which sleeps every x milliseconds, and when it is "awake" it updates the direction based on dropship's current location, then sleeps again.) it would make some impossible dodge moments like flying around buildings.
Yes, because you "could" Make it sloppy with faster, wider turns. But the thread has to have a longer sleep time (if my theory is correct) for it to be 100% IMHO.
What should happen is this: Swarms can fire at regular intervals, so the user controls the number of volleys. (adds skill, guide as many as you can, max is current) no other changes to swarms.
