What this game needs to truly boom is a downgrade in graphics so that the PS3's paltry memory is not so taxed, allowing more things to be done with the game. I propose a downgrade to the levels linked below. Better performing graphics Plus it would totally give the game cred with old school gamers. |

You do realize these graphical improvements you suggest will increase the load on the RAM? I mean look at them! Picturesque!

I like to think back on a game called Final Fantasy 7 , that thing had SO much packed into it. They could never manage to do that again with the new gen stuff and make it look pretty, but they accomplished sooo much.. on PS1 Hardware!! Keep me entertained like that , and I couldn't give a **** what it looked like. Though back then it even looked amazing.. them guys knew how to make use of what they had.
I still love that game! People always say they need to remake it in HD, but the sad thing is it just is not really all that feasible with how "graphic" hungry people are these days. |

Honestly, I'm all for performance over visuals.
Granted I don't want to be walking around with wire frame characters shooting 0's and 1's, but they could cut back a little on the lighting and textures.

But if your expectations were that a developer that has never worked on a console OR an FPS would come right out and hit a home run, you can only blame yourself. Those expectations given the facts were completely unrealistic.

I once read that 80% of a Human Beings experience comes from sight, don't know how much truth there is in this but it does seem poss I guess. I think with so many high-def games, going backwards is a bad idea. It's like when you watch a show filmed in the 70's, looks kinda old. Plus most people would like the latest and greatest imo.

Right, comparing the performance of one game to Dust from one of the most successful companies in console and portable gaming that has had experience with working with PlayStation for longer than CCP has been developing EVE online and releasing games on PS3 from before Dust was even a thing prototyped on PC is a fair and balanced assessment.

exactly.. he just admitted that the ps3 is not the problem, it's the experience of the handlers developing on it. The ps3 has plenty of potential for good stuff. Unfortunately , every compnay can't hire the best.. there is only so many of the best..and then it trickles down.. and sadly, when dust got developed.. they got the bottom of the barrel as far as that experience goes. I hate seeing the system be blamed , when it should be obvious it isn't.. otherwise we would have a lot of crappier games. |

Oh ****, note to self: don't post within the first minutes of waking up...
I read it wrong and do agree that the PS3 is only a part of the problem and that initial development of the games shoddy foundation is what hinders the game. Lack of experience, focus, and funding, that's the issue.

A friend of mine is a teacher and has had classes of students who haven't seen "The Wizard of Oz" because "it is in black and white"
I don't think it looks bad today, I don't think "Ghostbusters" looks bad today. There are some games with pixel art quality graphics that do look bad today, but others that still hold up imo. There are differences in graphics style, and there are dfiference in graphic quality. 2d pixel per square inch, 3d polygon per square inch, which also have 2d texture painted on top which have their own 2d pixel per square inch level of quality. Etc etc etc.
I'm more of a gameplay over visuals kinda guy, especially since there are many more games that are not-fps than there that are.
Thanks everyone for indulging in my little thread tho :D |

When the game is suffering performance hits from mails and contact lists after 3 years it's a sign. A sign highlighted with friggin' arclights, tbh.
Won't even get into voice and audio.
Look at the way variations on dropsuits were implemented, or how PC performance is still a mystery.
We hear a lot of excuses from CCP at the same time that other companies are releasing product that is squeezing amazing performance out of the PS3.
CCP produced a piece of crap, the history of the game's development is a testament to that. Now CCP thinks that Dust is perhaps worth investing in again, but not worth really investing in again.

i'd say, port to both...
