The general activeness of this game has really fallen since the beta.
Right now, I stand in my room, and I think of the battles that I go into today having been a beta player myself and think about all of the dry games I've had recently. Some matches you have your teams, maybe a team from Outerheaven or maybe a team from Ancient Exiles or maybe even Nyan Chan come and do what we call "Pub stomping" but it just isn't like what it used to be.
Members, good members that were apart of older corps like SverTrueBloods(STB) or L.O.T.I.S. or even the Imperfects. Members that gave a presence across the Dust universe and strikes fear into us as players, not the type of fear that you would say "Oh man, I'm scared of them" but the kind that your weren't afraid to die on the battlefield but if you were to notice any of STB, PFBH, or the Imperfect members walk over the horizon of the battlefield, you would spot them and you would say, "It is them" before biting the dust.
I feel those days are over. Great members are disappearing and the problem that I see as being mostly an observer of the battlefield is that no one is really replacing them. It is as though they can't be replaced. I've seen good tankers like lurchasaurus or good leaders like Quick Gloves (a real leader of the battlefield he was indeed) or even Free Healing. Or good forgers like Senator Snipe and so many other good players and had the honor of fighting with on the battlefield. These members left a real presence or mark on the battliefield. You even have generally cool players like Mortedearmor(sorry if I got name misspelled there) and spartanbiker, and my dude Pud Striker, and even a player that I've actually had the liberty to see become quite a monster soldier on the battlefield, saxomish.
This game has a lot of cool, skilled, and great players, but as they disappear by the number this game somehow fades and from what I'm seeing now, it doesn't seem to be getting better. Battles just seem to be dry to me, lacking no substance. The enemies of old the presence certain people made even though in some cases they were just money hoggers and were greedy like Kain Spero (no harm intended bruh) or was having secret money affairs and using other people's accounts or just doing what we call plain wicked under the covers, I feel there needs to be a change.
I'm not the best players, even after being a beta player and having observed the battlefield for as long as I have. I'm just wee little hermit crab with a heavy machine gun compared to a lot of skilled players, but I think we could bring this game back. Bring it back somehow to the same level of epicness we had in the beta. To bring back corps that are able to not just cause drama in the end but make a presence that when I enter that battlefield I would hold my gun, shaking uncontrollably as I had behind a worn piece of steal and say, "It's them! We are all going to die!" before turning the corner and be turned into a pile of dust from the bullets that come to me like a sea of pain, pain that I actually would like to feel again.
To feel a sense of fear... To feel a sense of disappear like going up against Almighty Status... To feel my death as I fall to the ground and bleed as I depend on someone, anyone to come and pick me up. I watch the miles decrease as my ally draws near to save me, but deep down, deep down inside, I know very well that he will not make it become the tryants are here and when the come, they come to destroy every and all...
All of this before turning gray and vanishing away into the wind and mingling with the trillions of other dead soldiers on the battlefield....
....only to come back again. Thank you.
Don't come near me or I will try to defend myself.

I struggled to take your post seriously after "feared" was used in the same sentence as "STB".
Also, you cannot compare Beta to now. Its a different game with mostly different players these days, and the old 'feared' players are either matched or gone. There are very few players that are truly next-level these days, so it is unfair to compare.
Plus, one thing was different then. We all had hope. All was lost and most players quit after The Rouge Wedding. Yes, we have hope now, but I doubt until whatever succeeds this game comes up that it will be seen again. PC back then was fun. We had a reason to fight, all that isk man. I just hope this new PC thats coming reignites the old vets.

Oh god, Senator Snipe. I remember a match against him. I found new ways to curse.
I understand what you are saying though. But here's to the future of change.
When I return (cause I've been lurking forums), I look forward to a better Dust. And maybe, just maybe the community got a bit more fire in the pants since the last time I've played.

Sometimes I wonder whether the 'good' players left because they didn't believe in DUST, or because their crutch was nerfed.
What came first, the balance or the biomass? That is the question.
I used to be quite a slayer back in the days when the MD was ridiculous, but that got nerfed, so I'm less of a slayer now.
I used to be quite the logibro back in the day when logis didn't get nearly as much WP as they do these days, back when revivals were a matter of stabbing everywhere except where the body lay, when repair tools shot out healing thunder but you never really got WP from repping. But then logistics took the spotlight with racial parity, WP capping system and the steadily increasing amount of people with 50m+ SP, and I was left in the dust there too by the more dedicated.
I also used to be quite a dropship ace before assault dropships came out and more people put in effort to learn how to fly them, and I became mediocre.
I was quite a hotshot in PC, and my undefeated streak of 2 PC games (lol yeah only 2, but it was true :P) when I was commanding the match was the source of much of my pride, but hey, these days, people see my name and say "I don't know that guy."
It's sad but the game changes, not just the playerbase. It's unfair to the developers to say after all they've done, it's only because the players and names have changed that the game feels different.

I think plenty left for numerous reasons. Utter domination and the lack of comp which lead to it being boring for them after using various means to entertain them. The endgame didn't offer much. Most were college kids in passing. Fanfest. The feeling this game wasn't going anywhere.
Pub matches were fun then (not sure about now) and I will remember mercs putting it all on the line. I do understand the OP because I remember having a feeling of dread facing other players that I didn't feel later on. It was guys I looked up to far as skill wise that I aspired to be because of their presence.
But his comments on the playerbase fighter's spirit has nothing to do with the devs. As much as I have had positive and negative comments on the direction of Dust, the devs has done a great job providing content for this game. And Rattati has helped to restore the faith for many players and rebuilt a bridge that seemed to have burn after FF.
Dust is not the same amigo we once knew, that's for certain. The way it is executed and its inhabitants has all changed. But in the end, that doesn't take from the notable and noticeable progress it has made. I am even interested in getting back into Dust when I get the chance. Dust is one of my favorite games to play. So I keep my eyes out on the forums and my brother keeps me informed of what's going on from time to time.
Hopefully out the ashes, new legends will be born.

Alright, I guess it was just me then on that, but you get were I was going though. It's just... different now. And you're so right on PC's being fun. :)

bringing it back would be porting it to PS4.. the first wave left when aim assist came on. more players left because they've moved on to PS4 quality FPS that you dont need to buy special recording hardware for. others tired of the console culture of nerf/FOTM and switched to PC indy gaming. more leave because those they knew have left. i had a fully trained dropship crew that got wiped out from the launch of destiny that i couldn't seem to replace. the ROF overnerf to incubus/railgun splash nerf didn't bring my gunner back. all i had left that i enjoyed solo with was my LAV which has been renerfed because of a perceived unfairness to infantry only players and then threw their HMG a bone to slay LAVs as if the lolSL wasn't already enough.. they totally removed my support LLAV that used to spider tank for the lurchasaurus you spoke of. what the blaster turret actually needed was a range buff for dropships to apply supporting/suppressive fire from a reasonable distance but for w/e reason that is not ever considered. the decent thing to do would be to buff the incubus bonus to the range blaster turrets but they leave us with a redundant %2 to ROF. |
