I played about 5 battles today and in 4 out of 5 people left half way through the game leaving the game at 6 vs 13 players. I have a simple solution. PUNISHMENT!!!!
It is simple, you leave battle early you get penalized 300,000 to 500,000 isk period. In order to avoid the disconnection problem then leaving battle penalty only applies if you Select the leaving battle option. Also, there should be a time allowing you to leave the battle withing the first minute of the game penalty free to include the cases when you deploy but a squad member gets left behind.
This is a simple idea and it works. Why does it work? because nothing motivates people more than money except for one thing. That one thing is losing money. You are a merc and are under contract. Brake the contract by committing treason and you get penalized. You should also lose the clone you deploy with. |

Sorry, would not work. Sometimes we need to leave battle.
Say, I was playing earlier today and my girlfriend came home from her visit to her family. I left the battle and go off DUST to be with her. Should I be deducted the pay of three battles for having a life? I do not think so.
Instead try to reward those on the losing side for sticking in the whole time.

Yeah. Your idea is so much better than:
Addressing tier disparities Addressing WP reward inconsistencies Addressing the squad deployment glitch Addressing the crappy ISK payouts Addressing any issues present in the new matchmaking Addressing redline mechanics Addressing getting shoved into a match as it is near its end
Yeah. None of the above play any role in quitting. Better to just implement PUNISHMENT! You know, because that will make the game funner. Yup.

You are correct in that real life is more imprtant but, with the recent changes leaving battle early has been a problem. Yesterdfay adn the day before it has been the same issue. If one guy leaves then that is ok but, when you have 10 people leave because they don't like how the game is going then that is not fair for the people that are playing. It is not a perfect solution. It is however a solution to mass exodus. Sure a guy like yourself will get unfairly punished but, this new rule would affect the mayority. We got to aim at fixing the high percentage problem and not worry so much about the rare special case. |

Loophole is a hole... Plan will not work.
The 1st minute is when most people leave, because they see the oppositions squad... Even without that, you say you have to select quit to incur the charge, which means using the ps3's 'exit game' option to avoid it.
This stinks of fail... Every attempt to charge people for leaving has issues, need to find a better way, like maybe forcing people to reconnect to the same match they left? Which still has the issue of leaving 1 guy behind, though it does solve people disconnecting and losing all their reward. |

Do something related to what Ghost Recon: Phantoms does (Hey, they directly ripped off how our strongboxes work with one of their latest updates, lol, goddamn keys)
Give a bonus for consecutive games up to some max like 4 games in a row or whatever. Lose this bonus if you go a day without playing. Lose this bonus if you exit a battle.
If you exit a battle, take a small hit to your loyalty rank as well.

That wouldn't work either because someone's power goes out, Internet goes out, family emergency, ect
So say I am playing, my power goes out....I can't play the next day because the electric company sucks? No good. |

It would work, because you only lose the small bonus if you skip[ a day (Like the daily consecutive log-in bonus we already have), and if your power goes out the small loyalty rank hit won't matter in the long run, only if you keep doing it multiple times a day on purpose.
Small penalties work as they are only minor inconveniences to legit circumstances, and stack up for those who make problems half a dozen to a dozen times a day.
Hell, you could even give people a free strike or two a day (for the loyalty penalty) to allow for such "acts of god."

Simple solution have progressively tougher penalties. You get 1/2 free disconnect a day each one after that goes up exponentially. First few disconnect due to your "real life problems " won't hurt much but do it a lot and it will be in your best interest to play tomorrow if you have a crappy connection or a lot of real life stuff. This will deter the stat padders. I'll say something like this seems fair First 1 or 2 disconnects free Then 50k Then 100k Then 200k Then 400k I think the alot of the disconnect excuses are exactly that excuses.

That wouldn't work either because someone's power goes out, Internet goes out, family emergency, ect So say I am playing, my power goes out....I can't play the next day because the electric company sucks? No good. First, DUST wasn't the first game to have strongboxes. I dunno if it was Valve but TF2 has had them sense at least September 30, 2010. I believe CS:GO uses the same monetization method.
To the second post: losing a bonus does not mean that the person doesn't get to play. The words were "lose this bonus if you go a day without playing" not "lose this bonus, you go a day without playing." So, basically:
First game, no bonus. Second game, 2% SP towards capping. Third game, 4% SP towards capping, Fourth game, 10% SP towards capping and 1% extra SP. This bonus incentivizes people to not want to leave because "ugh, I am at level 3 right now!" and the rewards are capped towards the high end. It also is added as a bonus for being a good player rather than punishment. This is important.
When World of Warcraft was in beta, the experience system worked like this: if you were Fatigued, you received 50% experience. If you were Rested, which happens when logged out at a city or inn, you received 100% experience. People HATED this. "You are punishing me for playing the game!" So they changed it ever so slightly. If you are not rested, you get 100% experience. If you are Rested, you get 200% experience. Now it is suddenly different. "Oh, even if I don't play that much, I am still getting Rested so I can catch up a little bit easier to the person that plays all the time!"
A bonus is something that positively enforces behavior and is generally more effective than a pure punishment.
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

It would be much better to reward people for staying than punishing them for leaving battle in a game that doesnt even work properly. It is actually the developers jobs to make this game fun, not the community.
Too be fair ive havent played dust for a couple of weeks so I dont how the new matchmaking works, but my opinion stands.

Any WP, kills earned through the battle should be removed if leaving, plus you will still earn the win/loss of the match.
That should work as a deterrent for W/L padding as well as K/D padding for Snipers.
So in this scenario they can at least stick around to get the EoM things and maybe, just maybe do something for the team rather than leave and get nothing.

Increase isk payouts and make the game mode more fun and unique.
Less frustration from playing will also prevent people from leaving so much.
Punishment is not going to fix this. Especially, since we can't play without a large percentage of the time being frustrated.

Instead try to reward those on the losing side for sticking in the whole time. Perhaps you should be asking if it should really matter. I am all for a sizeable ISK penalty even though I am:
1. Married 2. Have a 2.5year old daughter 3. Have a son due in 5 days 4. Run my own business and am the primary contact for clients. 6. Have a large property and home to take care of.
So I ask you, sir RAVEN WING, does losing fictitious money in a video game really matter when real life comes calling?

Whilst a penalty for intentionally leaving battles is a good idea if implemented well, I would draw your attention to the following thread: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2709357#post2709357
Basically there is currently a problem where mercs / squads are being forced in and out of battle without choosing to - suspected new bug.
So don't do what I did and assume these people are cowards, as this seems to be happening to a lot of people. |

I was just wondering...
Would it help to have a "Forfeit Mechanism" in place..? So, the battle doesn't start unless you have 12v12, but one side will be considered forfeit if it gets below 6 people.
At least, no time is wasted and the losing side is spared the utter stomp... Just a thought here... |
