To those of you who do not know, a Rugby superstar was taken by the San Francisco 49ers as a prospect.
In no way do I want to hate, but:
He is too slow- a 4.5 40yd (I ran better than that in HS) He catches the ball with his body, not out stretched hands. He has a language deficit in technical Football language and everyone in the NFL is fast- and 70% are faster than this guy!!!
Sorry RUGBY, but you're hero is about to get blown up by the NFL! |

I know, after watching his training films, that if he learns to reach out for the ball, and can learn "football" language a good coach could make him a situation player-other than special teams (punt returns and kick off returns).

He'll get cut before preseason ends! Bro, there is a massive difference between Rugby and Rugby League. Also keep in mind your NFL stars have two teams (offensive and defensive) and use up all their speed and stamina in short sprints. Not to mention you have downs and three timeouts each half with breaks each quarter and a 30min half time. In proper Rugby (not league) you only have two halves 40 minutes each. Each team only has 15 a side with between 6-8 reserves. We take no timeouts unless injury occurs and have a small break in our half time. Each player has to be an all rounder and had to learn how to both tackle and run the ball. Not to mention rucks, mauls and brawls are frequent. Did I mention we don't switch players every two minutes? Edit: Also no downs, its 40min continuous and we don't use pads. Only mouth guards and the occasional soft leather helmet.

I'll actually be rooting for him because it's a cool story.
There are high schools in Texas that would be harder for him to run through than that crap. Is that a real professional league that people pay to go watch? Can you guys get NFL Sunday Ticket in Australia? If so, you should get it. There are much fewer lumbering, slow white dudes with try hard looks on their faces. Why yes, just look at the weak, soft tackling in the NRL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq2Xb3BQZyYAlso, the champion Seahawks team copied Rugby tackling to create literally the most dominant defence in the history of the NFL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HihjPApzCg&list=LLJdeefD4edpCrAx1MT3KzNA&index=77Maybe you should contact Pete Carroll and tell him that he's wrong and that you know better?
Rugby tackling..lol!
I cannot watch the TUBE due to copyright rules, but this is a reach of cosmic dimensions-"rugby style" means not using your head to avoid head injuries so it "safer"...lol
The Seahawks have a great "D", but there have been others that where "more dominant" and some of them where old school and a hell of a lot more violent-the NFL has toned it down over the last 20 years.
I be rooting for this downunder worlder, but he is slow, cant' speak football, and catches the ball with his body and not his hands-rugby style. |

Well, I'm interested because with the Olympics and the attention to rugby it will garner here in the US, there will be some players who do not have "enough" to play in the NFL that will cross over-we have thousands of College players, that are bigger, stronger and a lot faster than any thing you guys have ever seen. |

OH and he runs upright like a target! You assume too much. From what I have read, he is 6'2 and 226. The 4.5 speed is fine. His biggest problem will be learning a new game. The same would happen with an NFL player trying to play rugby. Different rules, different nuances to learn.
If he even makes it to the practice squad, he'll be special teams returning punts in a constellation of other really fast guys-he runs "rugby style" which is straight up and down-or upright!
He is going to get blown-up! |

Just wait and see Rugby is a fierce game. However, do not underestimate the sheer speed and size of an NFL player. They are larger and faster than the average rugby player. For the record, I think this rugby player is a fine athlete and may just very well stick in the NFL. He has the athletic ability to do so. His biggest hurdle will be learning new rules. The same would happen to an NFL player trying to play in rugby. Both would need to learn to adapt. The only NFL players drastically larger than their Rugby counterparts are linemen, whose role is to slowly waddle around the line of scrimmage slapping and shoved at other fatties for 5 seconds at a time. The players actually running around in the open field are virtually identical to Rugby players. For example, the top rusher in the NFL is 5'10 and 215lb, while the top try-scorer in Super Rugby is 6'5 and 275lb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38sCGMihKKw

Fastest man in rugby is Carlin Isles ran a 6.83 60 yard.
My personal friend, because we played pop warner, and then High school and then College football against each other (Football, Basketball-he played track I played Baseball) his name is Michael Morris, now I'm just picking Mike because I know the quantity.
Mike played HS football at AYER high school in Ma. He then played at Syracuse University, if you follow rushing records and the NFL you may know his older brother Joe Morris, who broke Ernie Davis's and Joe Browns NCAA records and as well as setting the NFL rookie TD record at I think 22-but we're not talking about him.
HIs younger brother. Jamie Morris, broke all of the University of Michigan's rushing records-but we're not talking about him either.( if you know football look again)
Let's stick with Mike-a former strength and speed coach( under Gruden) for the World Champion Tampa Buccaneers and New England Patriots!
MIke, my friend, was so! much faster than Isles in the 60 he ran a 6.189-thats fast.
But this white 6'2 215lb guy caught him from behind-not once but twice!
Our dad's both wore the Green Barets.
